A Bruning Division Denver company develops a microfilming system for computer printouts. The format slides large data into portable chips suitable for heavy statistical use. Car dealers with six years of chassis parts can fit data on ten cards. Marvin Doyle of WNTC saw one at an open house.
The Sidney City Council voted to hold a special election on June 14 to approve a bond not to exceed 149,500 for a new swimming pool with 50 percent federal aid. It also discussed renovations, funding, and related municipal appointments and actions.
The First United Methodist Church of Sidney will begin using its new sanctuary this Sunday after five months in the makeshift space. The $350000 addition will seat 330 with room for extra chairs. 19 youths will join the confirmation class at the 11 a.m. service. The Rev Rod Wilmoth leads the project, with final services before leaving for Trinity United Methodist Church in Lincoln scheduled for June 12.
Linwood King, a retired auto repairman, drives a front ends welded mirror car that can be piloted from either end. For ten years it has drawn stares, laughter, and bets as it travels in parades and around town, serving as a publicity stunt for his shop.

Rex Swanson and Maxine Whitaker plan a Friday trip to Omaha to meet HUD officials about the Sidney senior citizen housing project. Cal Corcoran, longtime staff assistant at Wheatbelt Public Power District, resigns to become general manager of the Sheridan Johnson Rural Electrification Association in Sheridan Wyoming, starting July 1. His wife and children will stay in Sidney until housing is found as the association covers a large area near Decker Montana Buffalo region. Corcoran, a St Edward Nebraska native and University of Nebraska graduate, began at Wheatbelt in October 1970 after Deere work and Scottsbluff tenure. His Wheatbelt successor is not yet announced.
Washington farmers and consumers pressed for USDA action on low grain prices during a nearly five hour Farm Line call-in hosted by the Agriculture Council of America. Bergland and USDA officials fielded about 500 calls from an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 trying the toll-free lines. A caller survey indicated 81 percent were farmers, 18 percent nonfarm consumers, and 3 percent agribusiness reps, with farmers urging price relief to avoid selling farms.
A hearing is set for Thursday June 2 in Lincoln in the case of Mrs Ella Studnicka of the Sidney School District and board of education. Mrs Studnicka's attorney Ted Kessner says action has been filed in US District Court to enjoin the district from enforcing termination of her teacher contract. Judge Van Pelt will hear the motion.
