Memorial Day Vets Lead Local Observances in Many Towns

Memorial Day activities are planned across the area with parades and services in Sidney Poetz Lodgepole Gurley Dalton and Chappell. Veterans groups supervise arrangements with brief memorial programs including invocations addresses and taps.

Rites Tuesday For Mrs Fecht Who Lived In County Seventy Years

Mrs. Martha Fecht 85 died Saturday in Dalton Hospital after a year as patient. Funeral Tuesday at 2 p.m. Trinity Lutheran Church Dalton with Rev. John Rupley officiating. Burial in Dalton Cemetery. Gehrig and Son Funeral Home in charge. Memorials to Cancer Fund. Born December 13 1871 in Jacksonville Illinois daughter of Carl and Sophia German. Lived 70 years in Cheyenne County and moved to Weyerts in 1887. Married Harm A. Fecht September 26 1889 in Weyerts Lutheran Church. She and husband homestead near Weyerts then moved to Dalton in 1917. Survivors: daughters Henrietta Borcher Sidney Ohio, Clyde Toof Dalton, Herman Staley Lincoln, sons Albert Oshkosh and Arthur Minneapolis, 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren. Pallbearers: grandsons Robert Thurston Arthur Borcher Richard Toof Donald Fecht Herbert Fecht Arthur Fecht.

Mrs Thurston 57 Dies Saturday in Local Hospital

Palmer Thurston of Potter dies. funeral Wednesday at First Lutheran Potter with Rev Wacker officiating. Burial in Potter Cemetery. Mrs Gilliam, born 1899, daughter of John and Martha Gilliam, survives with husband, daughter Virginia Smith, son Clifton Thurston, four grandchildren, sister and brother. Pallbearers listed. Sidney Chamber Set to Meet at Sioux Ordnance Depot

The Sidney Chamber of Commerce will hold its second quarterly meeting June 6 at the Sioux Ordnance Depot. A 5:30 p.m. social, 6 p.m. dinner at the SOD Cafeteria, and a double-header program include Waldo Dearing speaking on depot operations and a screening of The Corporal Story. Tickets are 1.75. Reservations by 5 p.m. June 3.

Depot Pay Day Shift For Memorial Week At SOD

Army authorities announced the Sioux Ordnance Depot will move pay day up 48 hours due to Memorial Day. Workers who normally receive Friday pay will be paid Wednesday, with about half the staff paid weekly and the other half on the second week. Thursday is a holiday for all depot personnel. work resumes Friday.

A two-vehicle crash near Lodgepole sent a mother and her two month old daughter to Sidney hospital. Dale Snovely 34 Napa California drove east on Highway 30 and said braking to avoid a farm drive caused loss of control. The vehicle was struck by a westbound car driven by Clarence Grasz 33. Total damage estimated at 500 dollars.

Lebanon Willis Given U. N. Position In Mid East

Sidney’s Jim Willis 31, former city office manager and 12th grade football star, announced a United Nations posting in Beirut Lebanon as audit staff supervisor for the Beirut branch of UNRWA. He will audit disbursements for the Middle East refugee relief program after a medical and security clearance.

Weymouth Brother Dies in California

George Weymouth aged 67, brother of O. J. Weymouth of Sidney, died last Thursday at his Tor rance California home. The notice also mentions a Wednesday event in Milan Missouri.

Cheyenne County Fair Board Seeks Bids for All Purpose Building

After a year of talks the Cheyenne County Fair Board moves to bid on a new all purpose building. Bids are due June 5 with a shell planned this year. The 40 by 96 foot masonry shell may gain a stage kitchen rest rooms and heating later to serve 4 H and other groups year round. Ak Sar Ben funds 500 annually could be matched by the county to total 1000 for improvements.

Local Representatives to Attend Highway Session

Sidney will be represented at the national convention of the Interstate Parks Highway Association at Alliance June 7 to 9. JB Baker, chairman, and M R Sigler will attend convention sessions. The association seeks a federal designation for a north south highway from Texas to Canada, with Nebraska hosting a major stretch along what is now State Highway 19.
