The Cancer Fund drive in Sidney begins Monday May 27, led by chairman Frank Mattoon. Local leadership includes Jack Bentley in Sidney, Carl Schmidt in the business district, Mrs Ralph Welch residential solicitations, and Lola D Nelson in Potter county.

Grand Opening Set Saturday For Arts Gas and Cafe

Art Cunningham operates Art's Gas and Art's Chicken In The Basket located two and a half miles east of Sidney on Highway 40. Grand Opening offers free coffee and doughnuts plus balloons for kids. Giveaway prizes include 100 gallons of gasoline and a free quart of Frontier Stratotube or Ultratube motor oil with every oil change. A full page of Platinum Gift Stamps is given to all visitors.

Julesburg Hospital Addition Bids Set

Bids for a 42000 addition to Sedgwick County Memorial Hospital will be opened at 2 p.m. Monday May 27 at the hospital. The federal government covers 43.3 percent with hospital funds on hand. No tax levy increase. Addition includes six private rooms with baths air conditioning and a sun room. Construction to begin by June 15 and finish by November 1.

Sammy Kaye Band Canceled Sidney Engagement

The Sammy Kaye orchestra will not appear at the Sidney National Guard Armory this Sunday. Local guardsmen say Kaye was asked to extend a New York hotel engagement beyond the original contract period, leading to the cancellation.

The weather outlook for western Nebraska remains unsettled with continued cloudiness and showers today and Saturday. Light showers started in Sidney around 2 AM totaling .04 inch at the airport, then heavy rain and light hail with thunder by mid afternoon. A hail strip north of Scottsbluff and a broad rain band were noted, with Sc ottsbluff airport reporting heavy hail and Cher Chadron recording .13 inch of rain.

Ft. Morgan-Brush By-Pass Road To Get Early Start

Sterling Colo Differences between the state highway department and a citizens committee opposing the Brush Ft. Morgan by pass have been resolved. Construction can begin after July 1 once right of way buying proceeds and funds are appropriated. The 16 mile project along US 6 and 34 will take about three years with other US 6 work delayed until completion.

Legion Auxiliary County Meeting in Potter May 28

A Cheyenne County American Legion and Auxiliary meeting will be held in Potter Tuesday night May 28. A banquet at 6 30 p m will be served followed by a program and separate business meetings for the two organizations with district officers present. Farm Program Under Attack By Civic Club

The Sidney Chamber of Commerce opposes four Farm Program sections after reviewing civic club recommendations. They urge Senators Curtis and Hruska and Rep. Miller to oppose the 22 cent per bushel cut in wheat support price and decreased acreage allotments, urging hearings on rates and tariffs.

Tariff Could Aid Domestic Oil Needs in National Plan

Ohio Oil Co president J C Donnell II told the National Federation of Financial Analysis Societies in Cleveland that tariffs could limit imports to a reasonable level while keeping most petroleum needs from domestic sources. He warned against extreme quotas or unrestricted imports and proposed a sliding scale tariff to boost Western Hemisphere production for defense. He cited untapped oil lands, improved drilling tech, and strong demand as reasons for continued US output growth.

Forty Seniors to Graduate at Academy Ceremony

Forty seniors of St Patrick's Academy will graduate in a Monday evening ceremony at 8 p.m. in the St Patrick's Youth Center Auditorium. High honor student Mareen Mohatt is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Everett Mohatt. Second high honors go to Charlotte Anne Dorwart, daughter of Dr and Mrs C B Dorwart. Tree Planting Project Under Way At Depot

Sioux Ordnance Depot launches a wind break program with 15 000 trees planted to prevent drifting snow and aid transport and operations. Snow fence is used now. Contributors include the Sioux Gun Club. Plantings are mainly Red Cedar, Ash, and Russian Olive. Benefits wait about five years.

Peetz School Votes on Vocational Agriculture Building

Peetz school district 9 voters will gather at the school on June 9 to approve a proposed addition to expand facilities for 21 vocational agriculture students. The project is expected to cost about 12 500 dollars with no special bond issue anticipated.
