Cheyenne County observes Memorial Day with events across Sidney and nearby towns led by American Legion posts and VFW Auxiliaries. In Sidney Greenwood Cemetery hosts the 10:30 AM program with speaker L M Chilton, wreath presentation by Harlan Maddox, and music by Sidney High School Band. Several towns hold ceremonies at Legion Halls and cemeteries, featuring local clergy, rifle salutes, and musical numbers. An open house at Sidney Municipal Airport drew about 500 visitors for free airplane rides, with many local volunteers supplying planes and support from the Chamber of Commerce and residents. Major Kerr of the CAP in Omaha visited.

New Fox Plans Daily Matinees This Summer
The New Fox Theatre will open the summer matinee season starting Memorial Day and stay open every afternoon. Manager Elmer Haines says doors open at 1:15 p m with films starting at 1:30.

Two Central States Carnival Shows workers Tony Suleski of San Francisco and J B Summers of Abilene Texas were jailed in Cheyenne County on gambling charges. A gambing game led to about $260 in losses by local residents. Arrests occurred Saturday after a late Friday tip. A district court hearing was expected Tuesday with pleas of guilty anticipated.

Nebraska Highway Safety Patrol reported two weekend crashes west of Sidney on Highway 30. In the first, a 1949 Chevrolet coupe driven by James M. Roman and a 1952 International semi trailer driven by Harvey Olson collided about 6:30 PM, injuring James and Bobby Roman with facial bruises and a lip laceration. damages were $550 and $1,200. In the second, a 1947 Ford driven by Elmer Gable and a 1847 Chrysler sedan owned by Dalton Buick, driven by Carol Gentry, collided about 10:45 PM as Gable turned left while Gentry passed. damages were $125 and $175 with no injuries.
