Work on the Sidney westbound Interstate 8 rest area is underway with Paulsen Building and Supply, Inc. workforce on the foundation beneath the Roadway Confluence sculpture. The $318,868 project funds come from the Department of Roads and federal highway programs and includes a restroom building, picnic units, shelters, seeding and sodding, with completion targeted for June 1978. Eastbound work is slated to begin soon per the local Department of Roads office.

Farm survey to gauge 1977 acreages and livestock numbers
A nationwide survey will estimate 1977 planted acreages and livestock counts, to be conducted in June in Nebraska by the Nebraska Crop and Livestock Reporting Service with USDA compilation. State statistician Jack Aschwege says results help farmers plan production and marketing. The project uses interviews and mail responses, with about one in three Nebraska farmers contacted. Joe Bonkiewicz of Lodgepole leads a team, assisted by Eila MeeVicker of Gurley, as acreage estimates form crop forecasts starting July 12 and continuing through the season.
