Grabill No. 2 hits oil in Cheyenne County Nebraska

Ohio Oil Co. reports Grabill No. 2 wildcat in Cheyenne County Nebraska flowing oil after a fourth DST. The well on the east half of 23-18-51 produced oil in 36 minutes with gas flushes and shows promising output, following a string of dry holes this spring. Previous tests included multiple gas shows and minor oil finds in nearby wells.

Auxiliary Reduces Cheyenne County Hospital Debt by 2000

Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital received a 2000 payment from the Hospital Auxiliary toward the construction debt. The auxiliary carried out several fund raising projects including a bazaar to support the hospital and debt retirement. The check was handed at the hospital board meeting with A J Jorgenson, G H Doran, Ray Cruise, W J Robinson and P J Heaton Sr present.

Directors of the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association voted to favor marketing controls for the 1858 crop year. Five of seven directors supported the measure at Ogallala, urging a favorable vote by producers in the June 20 national wheat referendum.

Louis Rowen Heart Victim at Age 52

Louis R. Rowen 52 longtime Wheatbelt Public Power District employee and line superintendent died yesterday at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital after a heart attack at home. Funeral services tomorrow at 1 30 p m from Craig Mortuary with military graveside rites at Greenwood Cemetery. He was born June 30 1905 in Nemaha County and survived by two daughters and three grandchildren.

Victims of Plane Crash Return Home

Four Sidney residents were injured when a Piper Tri Pacer crash landed in the Sand Hills near Chambers Nebraska. Pilot Pat Heaton Jr and Richard Blair returned home. Shirley Smith and Pat McHenry with leg injuries remain hospitalized, all CAP cadets.

Art Kennedy 85 Dies. Rites Thursday at Gehrig

Arthur E. Kennedy, 85, died yesterday at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital after six days as a patient. He once partnered in Reel Kennedy road construction at Dalton and Sidney and later ran auto sales before retiring. Funeral services set for Thursday at 10 a.m. Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Edward M. OLeary 63 Dies in Ogden Utah

Edward M. OLeary age 63 died May 15 at his Ogden Utah home after a period of illness. He was a real estate broker in Ogden and a World War I veteran. He was born March 26 1894 in Greenleaf Kansas and married Agnes B. Carson in Cheyenne January 5 1944. Survived by his widow two daughters six others including siblings and seven grandchildren.

Replacement roofs planned for 86 Ordville units

Contractors are invited to bid on replacing flat deck roofs with gable type roofs for 86 Ordville housing units. The 84 member Sidney High School senior class will hold a Sunday 8 pm baccalaureate in the junior high auditorium followed by a Wednesday 8 pm commencement. Rains Fail to Restore Lodgepole Creek Flow Near Sidney

City officials report heavy spring rains gave short runoff into Lodgepole Creek and the park lagoon but flow has ceased. They plan to drive a perforated metal casing to hard-pan at the Trognitz Spring site on the Albin Olson farm to restore a running stream. The higher creek bed may require costly dredging despite a potential water source from the springs.

Weather Balloon Over Cheyenne County Draws Crowds

A large weather balloon launched from Lowry Air Force Base drew crowds in Cheyenne County yesterday. The Civil Aeronautics Administration said the craft, more than five miles high, was set to release instruments at 1836 hours with parachute drops 20 to 30 miles northwest of Akron, Colorado.

Cheyenne County Commissioners bought a carload of pure iron culverts for 7207.80, split between Eaton Metal Co. of Omaha and Armaco of Wahoo after identical bids. Vehicles Involved In Accident On Highway

Ray Wellner Wellner of Sidney drove one vehicle in a two car crash at the junction of Highway 30 and the Sioux Ordnance Depot road Saturday afternoon. The other car making a left into the depot road was operated by Marion Bewley of Northport. Wellner’s vehicle was passing at impact according to the accident report.

Boy Bitten by Sidney Zoo Monkey

Frank Hernandez a Brownson School student was bitten yesterday by a monkey at Sidney Municipal Zoo on South 19th Avenue. The bite was reported by the boy's teacher and the monkey was ordered confined for 12 days by doctor's orders.
