Chamber 49 short of membership goal

The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce reported 251 paid and committed members after a downtown Sidney blitz that raised nearly $2,000. The drive added 45 members, but the group remains 49 short of its 300 member goal. Leaders praised volunteers, schools, media, and local officials for support and plan continued outreach across nearby towns to reach the target.

Senators invited to WTCCA meeting amid budget vote

Western Technical Community Colleges Area board invited Senators Sam Cullan Robert Clark and William Nichols to its June 15 Scottsbluff meeting after LB 533 amendment victory. The measure adds 500000 to the college budget while Nichols failed an 800000 boost last week. The board also approved two new railroad related courses and moved Heavy Equipment to a one year program while shelving varsity sports for club level play.

Clark to Meet WTCCA Board in June

Sen. Robert Clark said he would be glad to meet with the WTCCA board in Scottsbluff on June 15 to discuss goals for community colleges. He and Sen. Sam Cullan are invited to explain their votes against an LB533 amendment that would add 500000 for colleges, with Clark citing tax concerns and regional inequities. The Unicameral returns after adjournment with LB533 likely to be readdressed, then winds up early June.

Needlepoint tapestry so vast Lloyds spurned policy

A 120 square foot needlepoint tapestry, created by Nebraska women from 93 counties, was deemed irreplaceable and declined for insurance by Lloyds of London. The work, composed of 12 inch blocks depicting county life, will be shown June 4 at the 4-H Building in Sidney.
