Bassett Died Suddenly at Home in Sidney Neb
William Frederick Bassett a longtime Sidney druggist died suddenly at his home on Wednesday May 21 at 1 30 in the morning due to heart disease. He was 60 and survived by his wife Susie and three children Kenneth Helen and Donald with relatives arriving to attend his funeral. Bassett had a long career in Sidney and Cheyenne County public life including service as coroner and Mason. The community mourns the loss of a pioneer and friend to the younger generation.

The American Legion Auxiliary unit of Sidney won most honors at the Seven th district convention in Sutherland on May 5. They had the best welfare report and earned a state president’s special commendation. Mrs. Claude Golding spoke on Americanisation. Mrs. Carl Ledbetter was re appointed secretary treasurer. Sidney beat Chadron and Kearney for next year’s district convention. Members attending included Albert Greenlee Carl Hutchinson Claude Golding Darnell and Winnie Osborn. The next regular meeting will present a full convention report.

Three cars totaling fifty two head of fat corn-fed steers and one car with 21 head of cows were shipped from Cheyenne county Monday by A Maley. Steers bought from Olson and Sons. cows from Frank Hand. Two carloads sold at Omaha and two at St Louis. Steers fetched about 10.40 per hundred, average weight around 1300 pounds. Cattle praised as excellent. Omaha market surprised to find corn-fed stock locally.

Sidney Opens Baseball Season at Sterling Sunday
The Sidney baseball club inaugurates the season Sunday May 25 with a game against Sterling on Sterling diamond. Art Closman will pitch. The team, described as the best non professional squad in years, plans to face larger city clubs. A home opener against Alliance may follow next Sunday. A benefit dance last Friday netted about $50 to aid expenses and purchases.
