Tornado Hits Near Gurley Damaging Two Farms

A tornado belt swept the Nebraska Panhandle with the Gurley area spared human injury. Two farms suffered damage including a shed, granary, and chicken coop, with 12 dozen chickens killed and a car pushed into a ditch. Repairs and cleanup followed as heavy rains and hail accompanied the storm.

Brother Of Sidneyite Dies In Denver At 84

Ernest B. Rogers aged 84 of Denver died in a Denver hospital where he had been a patient since surgery six weeks earlier. Funeral services planned for Wednesday in Denver with burial in Grand Junction. Survived by daughter Martha Jean Rogers, sister Mrs. Cunningham, and several nieces and nephews.

Wilford Straight, 70, dies after heart attack at home

Wilford H. Straight, 70, of 1445 Forrest St., died Friday evening at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital after a heart attack at home. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. tomorrow at First Christian Church with Rev. W. K. Hasenvager. burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Craig Mortuary in charge. Colorado military authorities planned to take custody of 20 year old Beryl McKelvey for absence without leave from Camp Roberts California. He was arrested Friday by Sidney police after a military request. McKelvey reportedly left his base early last week.

County Board Begins Study Of Schedules

Cheyenne County commissioners began their first day as the county board of equalization reviewing personal property schedules submitted by residents. Assessor Ray Gish noted a drop in the total number of individual schedules from 5,577 to fewer this year and a similar trend in business schedules, with last year totaling 2,492,275 dollars.

An Ohio Oil Co farmout found saturation in the Elent No 1 on the Colorado side of the Cheyenne County border. Two drill stem tests reported oil, mud and water content with production casing run. Mrs Widstrand Fractured Hip After Fall At Home

Frieda Widstrand suffered a fractured hip in a fall at her home on 1440 17th Avenue. She was transported by ambulance to Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital where attendants report her condition as satisfactory.

Sidney summer recreation program outlines plans and schedule

Arven Reynolds will head Sidney's second year of summer recreation with Rosemary Castner as his paid assistant. The plan proposes a permanent levy via next general city election to fund a long term program. The summer run runs June 17 to August 17 with breaks for July 4 and Ft.
