Housewives urged to buy canning sugar early this year

The U S Department of Agriculture advises housewives to purchase canning sugar now for summer fruit preservation. Buying ahead is thrift, not hoarding, and helps prevent local shortages caused by last minute rushes. In Memoriam for Elba Dean

In loving memory of my dear son Elba Dean who died May 23 1944. When evening shades fall I sit alone and long for his return. Friends may think I have forgotten when I smile but that smile hides heartache. Sadly missed by mother Burnace Hadley.

Chicken Raising Tips From State Extension Specialists

Western Nebraska farmers can boost small chicken flocks with guidance from Waldo Aubel, urging proper spacing, ample feeders and waterers, litter depth, ventilation, and shade. He advises separating cockerels and pullets at eight to ten weeks, moving brooders to clean ground, installing roosts, and using a rain and sun shelter. Use a barrel for water and feed to reduce travel, supplement greens with growing mash, and vaccinate pullets during range setup.
