The Department of Interior announced 1600.87 acres at Sioux Ordnance Depot southeast of the facility will be opened for oil and gas exploration under lease bids. Parcels totaling 1600.87 acres include three units near Sections 33 to 36 in 14-50 and 15-50, with bids due June 27.

The Carter Drilling Co plans a new wildcat oil test in Section 7-14-50 on Ida Lohr land north of Brownson, about 200 feet east and 1,300 feet south of the corner, following an unsuccessful previous well. SOD Worker Loses Leg In Area Mishap
Robert Lerma a forklift operator at Sioux Ordnance Depot was badly injured Friday morning while removing palletized ammunition from an igloo. He lost a leg mid foot knee area and sustained a fractured left femur and other injuries. He was taken to Sidney Hospital for immediate surgery. No explosion occurred. Investigation follows Army regulations.

She was born November 8 1880 in Willoughby Ohio and married John Evans in June 1932 at Yuma Arizona. Survivors include a daughter and five sisters and two brothers in California and Nebraska.

James G. McIntosh, North Platte attorney and academy alumnus, will deliver the principal address at the thirty-third annual St. Patrick’s Academy commencement. Twenty-six seniors will receive diplomas in the Youth Center Auditorium as the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Anton Link confers the diplomas. The program features the academy orchestra, several choral pieces, and the customary processional and recessional. Highway bids up Thursday for 118 miles of highway work
