End of School Week Banquets Games and Local News

The juniors held a May 13 banquet with toasts for teachers and the class at Park Salle's home then at Rosemnant Cafe. Local sports covered a Sterling juniors beat Sidney 15 to 9 with clean play and no hooting. A North Platte judge fined two bartenders for sending liquor to the judge. Burglary loss at Fred Griffiths' barn noted. Baccalaureate at Lutheran church praised. Various local items include high school graduation counts, Decoration Day plans, and a prosaic roundup of town news and upcoming events.

Primary School Recital Delights Tobin Opera House Audience

The Sidney School primary and intermediate departments presented a fine program at Tobin Opera House. A large audience enjoyed recitations dialogue music drills and songs with high quality selections and notable talent from young performers.

Commencement and closing exercises mark school week

Mrs Hammer and Miss Johnson visited Miss McFaddens class last Friday as graduates prepared for commencement held last night. Teachers note final exams and tenth grade botany projects ongoing for fall finish. Rev J S Leamer delivered the Baccalaureate sermon at the Lutheran Church last Sunday. Lower rooms held closing exercises yesterday morning at the Tobin Opera House.

J L McIntosh returned from Lincoln Friday. The school board will meet tonight to select teachers for the coming year. Casper Girman sold his meat market to Greenlee and Benson and may move to Denver. The northbound Burlington freight schedule changed to 8 58 arrival and 9 20 departure. George Thornbury reports wintering 600 cattle on Lawrence Fork with no losses. A plan to issue homestead entries under the Kinkaid bill is outlined as Commissioner Richards considers staff details before June 28 implementation.
