Colonels to perform at Chautauqua in Scottsbluff
Scottsbluff Gering Chautauqua committee unveiled a two day Nebr Chautauqua 75 schedule for June 1 2 at Frank Park featuring Fort Sidney Colonels on June 1 at 7 pm and diverse university local acts. Tickets available at western Nebraska drugstores including Sidney. Exhibits and booths run free outside the main tent with paid entry to main events and junior chautauqua areas. Sunday includes a large church service and choirs followed by lectures and performances by university groups and local acts. Monday features a Twin City parade from 10 am in Gering and ends with Scottsbluff High School state band set to 2 pm.

Senators again hike income tax in Nebraska
Lincoln AP reports the Nebraska legislature reversed course and approved a retroactive 32 percent rise in corporate income tax and 20 percent rise for individuals, aimed at raising 11 million in corporate and 41 million in personal taxes. About 100 youths took part in a bicycle safety program by the Cheyenne County Chamber Ladies Division with 50 bikes inspected by State Patrolman Paul Manley. Prizes went to Peggy Sullivan and Steve Osborne in the skills division. race winners included Jeff Hecker and Jack Hecker among others. Some 200 posters entered in the poster contest. winners span kindergarten to sixth grade with best posters to be shown at the Fox Theater. Participating groups included Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Sidney Police Dept and the Sidney Jaycees.
