The fourth oil drilling at the George Schnell farm, five miles east of Sidney, produced a jackpot with 2200 feet of clean oil in Schnell No 1. The well, from the upper Dakota sand, will be completed for production. casing to total depth 4440 feet and perforations planned within the saturation zone. Previous tests on nearby wells yielded salt water despite promising sand.

Sidney-Chappell Highway Resurfacing Slated With Bids in June
The Nebraska State Highway Department plans hot-mix resurfacing on Highway 30 between Sixrev and Chappell, with bids opened June 11. Work extends from Chappell west to the No 30 Nebr 19 intersection, about 1,305 feet of concrete and a 24 inch asphalt layer in two lifts. The project is stop-gap, funded by state funds, not federal, and traffic will be restricted to one lane during laydown.

Rural Youth Plans Change of Meeting Day to Tuesday
Cheyenne County Rural Youth met last Thursday night and voted to move the regular meeting from Thursday to Tuesday. The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 26, at ? o'clock in the City Auditorium. Plans for summer activities from June through August were discussed. Pat Pelster presided, Catsy Heaton served as secretary pro tem. The evening closed with recreation and lunch served by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sheets.

Highway Resurfacing Eases Sid ney Businessmen
Sidney and Chappell area concerns ease as The Telegraph reports No 30 will stay on its current route for several years while resurfacing is bid. The 26 mile Sidney to Chappell stretch will be awarded June 11. Officials say a future reroute toward No 19 near the airport is possible but not imminent.
Fort Robinson urged for multiple use by Nebraska
A 72 member study committee headed by Gov Crosby urged that the 22 000 acre Fort Robinson near Crawford be turned over to Nebraska for multiple uses. Proposals include beef cattle breeding, a recreation area for tourists and fishing, preservation of historical subjects, and a housing area for aged persons. A Legislature resolution asking Congress to transfer the property is pending. Sen Bixler said he would seek floor action next Monday after committee reports.

Unsettled Weather Continues Across the Plains
Occasional rain fell in Sidney on Monday with overcast skies and heavier showers in other parts of the county. Western Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming saw scattered rain and thunderstorms, delaying fieldwork and a Sidney street program. Rain gauges reported up to 0.75 inch in some areas while temperatures dipped slightly but did not freeze. Road travel along Highway 19 faced slippery conditions and paths near Peetz and Logan county suffered most from recent showers.

TV Backfires Blamed On Faulty Set In Karnik Home
Fire at the home of Mr and Mrs Leon Karnik 1340 19th Avenue caused about 1500 in damage from a television set short. The Karniks woke to smoke and kept the blaze under control with a garden hose before the fire department arrived. The TV was destroyed and interior smoke and water damage occurred.

Seda Rites Held Monday
Funeral services were held for Wesley Seda 87 a retired Sunol farmer who died at his Sunol home on May 15. He was born September 28 1860 and came to the area in 190? with Ripa brothers and sisters. He married Jennie Vanek on July 22 1893 and their union produced eleven children, with two sons and one daughter dying in infancy. Survivors include his widow three sons James and Charles Seda and Adolph Seda of Long Beach Calif and four daughters Rose Hornicek Sophie Heng Anna Kucera of Sidney and Mary Hornicek of Lodgepole 25 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Services were at 2 pm at the Craig Mortuary with Rev Henry Monnich officiating. Burial in Bohemian Cemetery south of Sunol.

Mrs Harlan Maddox, who has been hospitalized in Scottsbluff since December 22, arrived at her home here Friday. She plans to stay until mid June before traveling to Denver for further polio treatment. Mr Maddox brought her home from Scottsbluff where she has been receiving care since December 22.

Korean Drama- Daniels Is Rescued From Sea
Lt. Roger Daniels of Sidney survived a shot-up Thunderjet in the Korean air war after baling out into the Yellow Sea. A rescue helicopter pulled him from the water thirty seconds later, crew witnesses said. The Air Force noted Flak struck his fighter-bomber during a morning strike and helicopters monitor pilots in distress. The rescue was by Lt. Franzier Foron, Capt. Grand Bird, and S. Sgt. Bengel Kelly.

Five Million Fish Stocked In Big Lake
The Nebraska Game Commission lists almost five million game fish released into McConaughy reservoir since 1941. Notable stockings include 1,000 catfish in 1941 and nearly 4,000 adult crappie in 1947, with rainbow, brown, brook trout and others added over the years. The lake has yielded several state record fish, including white bass, northern pike, walleye, rainbow and brook trout, and Otter Creek also produced record crappie and brown trout.

Delaware Drilling Co reported drilling through the D sand with no shows at wildcat No. 1 Ransch a half mile east of Gurley. The hole was cored from 4594 to 4628 feet, then resumed to reach 4654 feet Monday morning. Coring for the J sand was planned around 4730 feet. Access to some Cheyenne County sites was difficult due to weekend wet weather.

Attorney General S. Beck ruled that Nebraskans who held a deer permit in 1951 or 1952 are eligible for an antelope permit this year but no one may possess both a deer and an antelope permit in the same year.
