Demonstration Farm Plan Prompts Sidney Meeting

Citizens hear a Campbell Farming Association proposal after Douglas Gordon of Campbell outlines proven results. A special committee of local leaders will report May 29 as Sidney hosts plans to secure a one square mile site and a macaroni wheat crop with promised profits per acre.

School Notes Highlight Attendance and Transfers

Aletta Foster entered the sixth grade Monday. Lillian Jackson was absent from Miss Blanchard's room. Ruth Kelley was absent from the sixth grade Monday. Henrietta Shoemaker and DeLora Sheffer are absent from the fourth grade. Ferl Griffith has returned to grade two after a two week visit in Omaha.

Exhibit of pupil work at school Thursday afternoon

An exhibit of the work by pupils will be presented in the various rooms Thursday afternoon May 24 from 1 to 4 o'clock. Patrons and parents are asked to visit the school to inspect the exhibited work. Some work by each pupil will be shown.

Sidney Boy Wins State Oratorical Contest in Dramatic Class

Arthur Oberfelder of Sidney claimed the dramatic class title at the state oratorical contest held in Lexington last Friday evening. Eleven towns competed including Alliance Lodgepole Hastings Rushville Columbus Lexington Merriman Madison Brady and Seward. Oberfelder, who returned from the east Wednesday morning, received an ovation at Sidney High School and a reception at the court house.

Lecture by Rev. Hornaday at Tobin Opera House Inspires Youth

Rev. Harry Hornaday spoke at the Tobin opera house to a large attentive audience. The young preacher offered guidance urging boys to prepare for manhood by cultivating honesty and integrity while detailing the dangers of vice. Also noted was Will Davis of the Union Pacific bridge gang who suffered a cut head after a timber mishap with an adz, causing a return to layoff.

Campbell System Farming Association Eyes Sidney for Demonstration Farm

Field secretary E Doucas Gordon appeals Sidney residents and two local banks to back a Campbell System Demonstration Farm proposal. He argues Cheyenne County is ideal due to Union Pacific and Burlington lines and outlines a $3,000 stock subscription and a $6,000 equipment cost, with banks as collectors and land deeded to the association before any farming begins.

Railroad Notes From Sidney and North Platte

Union Pacific crews including Langdon Stuart Clabaugh and Woodward were active in Sidney and North Platte repairing depots, bridges, stockyards, and guards. A fire at the stockyards was contained by Foreman Worman and Agent Onxy.
