County seat notes report two dental offices robbed while other items cover a Misa Dolly Merifield afternoon party, family travels, new Woodman lodge in Dalton, a newborn girl for Mr. and Mrs. Reddy, decoration day plans, and Sidneys social events.
The Sidney High School senior class will hold commencement at the Tobin opera house on Friday evening May 35. The baccalaureate sermon will be preached by Rev. A. S. Corbett at the Episcopal church on Sunday morning May 20. The two boys and two girls are Lena L. Riba Dora M. Davis Robi O. Chambers and Paul L. Martin. Invitations and programs will be issued soon by THE TELEGRAPH job department. Class colors pink and white, flower carnation, motto Hammer it Out. The program includes solos, duets, recitations, and the diploma presentation by Hon. J. L. McIntosh.
The program lists entries for the Oratorical group with works by August Brokaw Roy Cochran Martha Gilter Baurl Mallery and others in dramatic and humorous sections. It also notes schoolroom updates including students returning to classes re entries in spelling and health related absences.
A representative of R. L. Polk & Co. visited Sidney on Monday to collect information for an upcoming Nebraska business directory. He gathered data from local firms and stated the project aims to compile comprehensive listings for the state.
Denver representatives of the Campbell System Farming association visit Sidney to sell stock and raise funds for a model farm in Cheyenne County. Guided by H W Campbell of Lincoln Nebraska the project aims to show drought tolerant crops on divide lands and semi arid plains without irrigation with seeds chosen for local conditions. The association has already secured substantial subscriptions and pledges strong local support if a farm guarantee is provided.
Geo Buazzia promotes a Sidney public meeting at the court house Monday 8 pm to discuss building a great mill and elevator. He cites local grain production, available stone, water power, two railroad lines, good roads, and ample fuel and grain nearby to support year round operation.
Burglars robbed the dental offices of Doctors Murllees and Beebe on Thursday night taking about fifty dollars worth of teeth and gold from each office. Entry was through the door with skeleton keys. The crime suggests two strangers familiar with dentistry. two suspects fled east on the morning train after the break in.
Chappell Register reports Burlington ceased grading on North river work and across from Ogalalla to Grant last week, with vague notes on potential Union Pacific cooperation. Possible track use from Northport to Guernsey by UP and mixed impacts on Devel County taxes, land values, and settlement.
Burlington issues a crop report covering the Wyoming division including Western Nebraska. It notes wheat acreage varying by division, with spring wheat sowing finishing Alliance, Sheridan showing increased acreages, and Sterling seeing spring wheat come up. Corn planting rises on Alliance while Sheridan has none. potatoes and beets show mixed changes. rains and snow improved spring seeding conditions across divisions.
Six Greeks join the Burlington section gang as Fore man Kelley studies a Greek dictionary. Vice-President Willard of the C B and Q and party toured the Burlington system in Sidney on Thursday. The Harriman special passed through Sidney last Monday on a record breaking run east from San Francisco. The 128 miles from Sidney to North Platte was completed in 126 minutes.
