Sugar Privilege For Canning Puts Limits On Purchases
Householders may buy 25 pounds of sugar at one time for canning and preserving, with a signed certificate to be shown by retailers. The certificate must state the sugar is for canning and excess will be returned. The limit, set by Gordon W. Wattles upon Washington guidance, applies to mail order distributors and other concerns. Merchants are responsible for enforcing the privilege and avoiding abuses. Beginning May 13 manufacturers using sugar must also buy on the certificate plan, with percent allocations for essential, less essential, and non-essential manufacturers.

Flour export survey planned by federal and county officials
County Food Administrators of Nebraska have been asked by Federal Administrator Gurden W Wattles to survey all flour held by retailers and distributors for possible export. The Gering band leader Lynch, now bandmaster at the Iowa state hospital, may join the government service. The Western Nebraska Bar Association meeting in North Platte is canceled as members enlist or assist in war efforts, making a full gathering impractical.
