Sidney meas at downtown Illinois Street to unveil mercury vapor street lights in a two decade gap upgrade. The Chamber of Commerce and City will host the program starting 7 45 pm with a band march, 8 pm dedicatory talks by City Council President Jack Lowe former president H E Pierson and City Manager Virgil Knowles. At 8 15 pm merchants will switch off lights then the new system goes on and the band performs.

Tornado Damages Johnson Farm South of Potter
Mrs. Warren Johnson, a longtime farm resident south of Potter, was hospitalized with cuts and injuries after a tornado swept the Jim Johnson farm in Cheyenne County. Neighbors said two tornado cones touched down. one damaged fields, the other hit the farmstead. Torrential rain flooded dry draws and caused road damage. no other damage reported.

One Injury One Arrest In Accident Near Sidney
A tourist Betty M Hall of Chicago sustained forehead chest and knee contusions in a two car collision on Highway 30 east of Sidney. Eugene Eagle Hawk fled the scene but was arrested next day and pled guilty to leaving the scene and failing to yield. Damages totaled 225 dollars. A second 1949 Buick and a 1950 Lincoln collided near Sidney injuring no one.
