Sidney Legion Post shows record membership and plans

Sidney post American Legion reports a record 140 members, four more than any prior year, earning a silver cup and six state convention delegates. Plans focus on Memorial Day activities, a county war memorial dedication, and community service with the Ladies Auxiliary serving a veterans’ lunch. A new sign board around the vacant lot on north Central faces east and north, completed at a cost of about 135 dollars, with most funds to be returned via space rentals. The cannon from Benicia arsenal arrived, costing about 268 dollars freight, and crews map its base and sidewalks on the court house lawn.

County Graduation Exercises Set For May 14 in Sidney

Eighth grade graduates from Cheyenne county schools are listed by County Superintendent Mrs Daisy Fletcher with about seventy five names published. The Tobin opera house in Sidney hosts the May 14 exercises at 2 pm with Newton W Gaines as speaker and a program including music.

Produce Purchases Highlight Sidney Trade With Union Pacific

Manager Young of the Union Pacific hotel reports annual produce spending of about 22 thousand dollars in Sidney. He notes monthly purchases of 1800 dollars for poultry butter eggs milk and cream from local merchants, with a holiday uptick. Sidney council debates plan to cut city taxes by 20 percent

Councilman A J Jorgenson advocates refunding 1920 bonds to extend five year terms and avoid levying new taxes, forecasting a 20 percent tax cut while current interest on all bonds costs 21 500 annually and 5 600 to retire the 150 000 bonds. Sidney High School Graduation Programs Announced

Superintendent Liebendorfer will secure a speaker from prominent Sidney graduates for the annual commencement address with Guy C. Chambers, 1911 alumnus and Lincoln attorney, chosen this year. Rev. Theodore Kahse will deliver the baccalaureate sermon to the graduating class.

Baccalaureate Services at Methodist Church Plans

Sunday May 18 8 p.m. services feature processional prayers readings and a sermon by Rev Kahee. Prof H B Smith conducts with the high school chorus performing Fear Not O Israel and The Lord is My Light followed by a benediction by Rev Kilburn. Franklin Hornaday listed among participants.

The May 22 30 commencement program at the Methodist Church featured an invocation by Rev Kilburn salutatory Deomea Hade piano solo Prof Smith valedictory Kathryn King vocal solo Franklin Hornaday and a commencement address by Guy C Chambers with diplomas presented by MM W Dimery.

Sidney School Notes Carnival to Held May 13

Sidney high school athletic carnival postponed earlier will be held in the gymnasium Tuesday evening May 13. Event includes wrestling boxing swimming and gymnastic stunts with strong attendance expected. Superintendent Liebendorfer notes a state vocational education letter about a special car to Sidney via Union Pacific for locomotive engineers and firemen instruction. Night school finishes this week or next after four of eighteen classes meet.

Melodyland to headline Sidney musical comedy by Legion post

The American Legion Post No 17 in Sidney will stage Melodyland, a large scale musical comedy from New York City producers. The show has toured many states and Canada, praised in Fremont, Norfolk, Omaha, and North Platte. Rehearsals begin next week. potential cast members should contact B. C. Grabill.

Big Safety First Meeting Here Soon

Railroad men from Wyoming division will gather in Sidney on Wednesday May 21 for a safety first meeting with at least 250 attendees and guests from North Platte Sidney Cheyenne and Laramie. High railroad officials will attend including General Manager Jeffers and General Superintendent Woodruff with a full committee structure guiding banquets entertainment and a sightseeing tour to follow.

Farmers Union plans June picnic near Sidney at Krueger lake

The Cheyenne County Farmers Union will hold its annual picnic on June 11 at Krueger's lake, six miles east of Sidney. Governor Bryan and Beatrice Republican candidate McMullen have accepted invitations. A 25 cent car charge covers expenses, with a speaking contest for children and various races. A ball game and dance are planned with band music provided.

Music Week in Sidney Surges With Strong Attendance

Music Week in Sidney has drawn exceptional crowds with packed venues across the Methodist church Tobin Opera House and outdoor concerts. Local organizer Mrs. Burgess is praised for leadership as Sidney Women’s Club sponsors the event featuring youth bands, saxophone ensembles, Center school orchestra and multiple programs across three days plus a review planned for next week.
