Music Week in Sidney to be biggest ever

Sidney and Cheyenne county prepare for May 4 to 10 Music Week with free outdoor and indoor concerts. Six bands, three sax groups, four orchestras, choirs and soloists, plus cantata and a 200 piece consolidated band, all aimed at a grand inaugural event sponsored by the Sidney Womans club. Local donations and civic support fuel a week of classical and cherished tunes, culminating in a 200 piece concert Saturday night.

Sidney chamber of commerce plans full Music Week with free programs outdoors and in venues. Free grounds at Sidney country club and Masonic hall basement for instruments, U S A theatre offers shelter with matinee and weather plan. H L Bonham’s Kimball band to perform next Saturday. Delegates urged to secure Sidney Juvenile band for the state fair.

Daily Delivery For Route B After May 16

Attorney Paul L. Martin reports a telegram from Congressman Robert G. Simmons announcing rural mail route B from Sidney will shift to daily delivery on May 16. Route B serves about 100 families across 67 miles south of Sidney, including Lorenzo and Sidney Draw, with carrier David Ells. salary rises to 2000 dollars. Local merchants and newspapers gain from the change, credited to Postmaster Pindell, the Sidney chamber of commerce, and Simmons.

Ringing of Phone Saves Kinton Family and Home

The phone ringing saved the RE. B. Kinton family when an oil stove exploded in their bedroom during lunch. Mr. Kinton answered the call and a wall of smoke and flames rushed out. Neighbors and Mr. Kinton extinguished the fire but the room’s interior suffered heavy damage to clothing bedding and furniture.

Concerts and parade mark week at Municipal Band Stand

The program features Larsons Girls Saxophone Band, Bob Breakey's Serenaders Orchestra, and a Knapp led program at Laramie Opera House with pieces by Handel Kreisler Gounod and more. The Sidney Post reports the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps will parade the business district each evening at 6 45.

Six to Graduate From St. Patrick's Academy

Six students will graduate from the four year course and one from the two year business course at St. Patrick's academy this year Rev Father Anton Link announces. The four year graduates are Joseph Beyer Margaret Dalton Tillie Hemmer Alma Portrey Ethel Reisdorff and Agnes Semerad. Florentine Rotter will graduate from the commercial course. Sixteen pupils will also graduate from the eighth grade. Graduation exercises will be held in St. Patrick's auditorium on the evening of May 29.

Ready For Kids Big Parade In Sidney Saturday

A Sidney event organizes a large kids parade on Saturday afternoon at 2 30 for youths 8 to 15. Participants should bring ponies bicycles dogs wagons and wear uniforms or work clothes. The parade begins at 3 led by Juvenile Band and travels principal streets with planned activities afterward. Boys may attend band practice Friday at 7 for instructions.

New Burlington Depot Work To Start In Sidney Soon

Burlington Agent Shipman announces that work on the new $15,000 Burlington depot in Sidney will begin next week or the one after. The railroad company’s top crew, now at Guernsey, will move to Sidney within two weeks. An added $2,000 appropriation approved by executives will enhance finish in the passenger waiting room and improve baggage and freight rooms. Also note: 7. S. Tewell and daughter Tessie of Holdredge visited Sidney last Saturday for a week with son and brother Judge J. G. Tewell during a trial period.

Legion Days of '49 Show Heads to Tobin Opera House

Sidney hosts the Days of 49 carnival at Tobin Opera House tonight and tomorrow to raise funds for the county war memorial. Proceeds support a worthy cause while offering a wide array of attractions coordinated by the American Legion and Auxiliary.

Cheyenne county soil conditions improve after recent snow and rain. Wheat roots show strong vigor per M A Shipment. Some seeding finished and plowing for corn underway. Oats and barley seeding remain, but overall agricultural outlook brighter than two to three years ago. County Agent Willey reports 30 laborers added in April and labor market improving.
