Services Held For Mrs. Fred Beyer

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Fred Beyer 76 who died Sunday night in Memorial Hospital. A resident of Cheyenne County for 55 years she died on her 69th wedding anniversary. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Lawrence Portrey officiated at the 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Welton Larry Welton Larry Miller Lawrence Beyer John Beyer and Robert Beyer. Myra Jane Bayne born Feb 19 1888 at Winchester Missouri to Willis F and Effie Tryon Bayne married May 3 1905 to Fred J Beyer and moved to Cheyenne County in 1909 from Pierce County. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and the St Patrick Altar Society. Survivors include her widow two daughters two sons two brothers four sisters 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. One son preceded her in death.

John Godres and Jean Tobler Godre of Hanna Wyoming welcome a baby boy born Sunday May 3 at Rawlins hospital. Granddaughter is Mrs Wallace Hernbloom. Clover Leaf Drovers 4-H Notes from April Meeting

The Clover Leaf Drovers 4-H club met April 28 at 6 30 p.m. for song practice with Harold King. The regular meeting followed at 7 30 p.m. Sharon Sinsel spoke on the Penny Carnival and members reported on foals. Chuck announced a June 14 horse show at Chappell for 4-H entrants. May 8 arena practice was noted. Next meeting May 12.

Fort Robinson Museum Opens 1964 Season Near Crawford

Nebraska State Historical Society announces Fort Robinson Museum opens May 1 and runs daily through Sept 30 with May hours 8 am to 5 pm weekdays and 9 to 5 Sundays, extended to 6 pm starting June 1. Located four miles west of Crawford on US 20, it preserves fort history from Indian wars to World War I with tours of the old post HQ, blacksmith and harness shops, and markers noting Crazy Horse site. Richard L. McGee returns as seasonal curator for his second summer. Admission is free.

Library reading room to close for HVAC upgrade

The Library of Congress main reading room will shut during summer and fall as workmen install a new heating and ventilating system and replace antiquated book conveyors.

Deadline Near For All State at University of Nebraska

May 15 is the deadline for Nebraska high school students to register for the 1964 All-State High School Course at the University of Nebraska. John Moran notes limited openings in several study areas as the program runs June 14 through July 2, continuing a two week human talent lab for aspiring debaters actors artists and journalists with a history of over 9 000 participants in 28 years.

Fairfield California reports Major Donald P Wegner son of Mr and Mrs Oriville P Wegner of 1895 24th St NE Salem Oregon received the second oak leaf cluster to the Air Force Air Medal for meritorious achievement in aerial flight He is a C 130E pilot assigned to a Military Air Transport Service unit at Travis AFB California His squadron supports the MATS network and operations.

U S Air Force and Navy personnel in far overseas postings

A 22 year veteran, commissioned in 1944, served in World War I China India Burma theater and Korean Conflict, later training at Amarillo AFB Texas for aircraft repair and assignment to Laon AB France. Also notes USS Shelton crewman visiting Mombasa Kenya and Aden port calls as part of the Concord Squadron in the Seventh Fleet.

Governor ends prisoner servant custom in mansion

Gov Edward Breath presided over ending a long practice where state prisoners served as servants at the governor mansion. They received meals and small pay, and a pardon was traditionally awarded at the end of a governor’s term for good service, now discontinued.
