Reducing fodder growth when corn is planted on alfalfa ground
The College of Agriculture proposes three methods to limit excessive fodder. First, prefer listing over surface planting if alfalfa was plowed early and shallow. Second, plant corn thinly to two thirds or three quarters of a stand using adjusted planter plates or sprockets. Third, vary varieties by planting a small or early corn on alfalfa to reduce moisture needs and fodder, while larger, thicker plantings suit silage or fodder needs.
