Sidney retains the Western Nebraska debating title by defeating Ogallala and Alliance. Ralph Perse chosen to represent the district at the state contest in Lincoln on May 13. The Sidney team included Warren Cunningham, Ralph Perse, and Francis Herbert. Judges reported each boy earned one vote for representative, signaling a well balanced team. This marks the fifth consecutive year Sidney has won the Western Nebraska debate championship.

Aged Tourist Dies at Union Pacific Hotel Dinner
Mr and Mrs James Ponting of Varami e aged 71 died at the Union Pacific Hotel during a dinner after his head suddenly dropped to his chest. The wife noted prior heart issues and a doctor confirmed death occurred before help arrived. They were en route to Omaha for a veteran trainmen reunion. District Judge Tibball and wife accompanied the wife home.
