Experts from Colorado Kansas Wyoming and Nebraska met at the Sioux Army Depot site for a full day session to review the upcoming High Plains Agricultural Laboratory. They discussed problems in wheat culture soil and water conservation weed control fertilizer use and moisture management for a 2400 acre area in western Nebraska.

Spring Blizzard Skips South Panhandle As Wind Howls
A southern Nebraska Panhandle fringe of a larger blizzard produced high winds up to 50 mph and subfreezing temperatures. Heavy snow stayed north. winds caused minimal soil erosion and crop concerns remained limited despite cattle protection efforts and late April moisture.

Equalization Board Schedules Final Sessions for Year

Steer calves 370 to 500 pounds topped at 30 dollars with some at 29 10 30. Heavier steers 575 to 675 pounds sold 25 50 to 27 75 and 800 pounds at 23 75. Whiteface heifers 622 pounds brought 23 50 and 695 pounds 23 25. Colorado buyers took the cattle. Mixed heifers 600 acres 23 20 to 23 50. Top cows 18 30 and bulls 21 25. Baby calves 35 to 49 per head. Hogs 226 pounds 18 and 221 pounds 17 90.

Harold Dean Kuhns of Sidney was seriously injured in a Bridgeport auto accident early last week and moved to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for treatment. He is undergoing examinations and X rays with possible surgery not yet scheduled.

Cheyenne County entrants scored well in the District 38N Lions Talent Show at Kimball Sunday afternoon. Jane Kriesel of Gurley won first in the senior division with a My Fair Lady vocal medley. Tammy Schu macher and Jodie Enevoldsen of Potter took second in the senior division. Peggy Ahlschwede of Gurley were second in the intermediate division with piano and vocal act. First and second senior winners advance to state competition.
