Shipman, a long-time Lid office clerk and Sidney native, succeeds John W. Martinosky, who has served as postmaster since 1944. Hospital Plans To Be Reviewed In Cheyenne County
Preliminary plans for Cheyenne County Community Hospital will be reviewed in April by the local board of directors and state and federal officials. Ira Steward says the meeting is tentatively set for Thursday April 16 and will be an all day session. Architect Frank McNeil of Grand Island will have preliminary schematics ready by that date. U S Public Health Service representatives in Kansas City and the State Department of Health at Lincoln will attend. Steward says the meeting should speed final plans so bids can be called early and notes strong bidding on recent school projects as a hopeful sign for hospital bids.

Auto Wrecks Cause Heavy Losses Over Weekend
The Nebraska Highway Safety Patrol reported two one car crashes over the weekend. A 1950 Ford driven by Sunday7S Fonseca, 18, of Mitchell, rolled over on loose gravel near Gurley causing $385 in damage but no injuries. A 1946 Chevrolet driven by Irvin D. Barnard, 16, of Sidney, rolled over three miles west and two north of Sidney on the Sidney Draw road injuring three passengers: Charles Dorris 15 suffered a collarbone fracture, Kenney Sewell 18 forehead lacerations and a bruised arm, Jim Ingle 15 cuts on the left arm. Sewell and Dorris briefly hospitalized. Vehicle damage estimated at $300.

Air Reservist Meeting Held in Sidney
About thirty five air corps reservists of the 9737th Squadron and their wives attended an area wide meeting at the Sidney Country Club. Major George Means Major Richard Berry and Captain G J VandeWaa Jr led the event with representatives from Scottsbluff Alliance Ogallala Sterling and Crook. Sidney Flight won the attendance plaque which Captain Knicely accepted. Retail Food Prices Drop in Sharp Monthly Decline
The government reported the sharpest drop in the cost of living for a single month in the past year, led by a 1.4 percent fall in food prices for the period ending February 15.
