Nineteen crews operate between North Platte and Sidney with eighteen new UP brakemen added recently. Cady travels to Grand Island for his brother’s illness. Eastbound UP trains have run late due to washouts and landslides on the Central Pacific. Train No. 5, heavy with passengers, passed through Monday westbound on sixteen cars pulled by two engines. Protective board talks yield higher switchman pay in Sidney yards. An engine in the roundhouse derailed into the turntable pit after steam pressure accelerated it forward. James Downie, long-time roundhouse foreman, fatally injured near Grand Island while attempting to shut off steam. he leaves a wife and five children and was taken to Omaha hospital.

Catherine McAllister dies in Cheyenne County age 75
Catherine McAllister widow of A K Greenlee died at her niece’s home Friday morning in her seventy sixth year. Born in County Antrim Ireland in 1880 she emigrated to America at age twenty two. She lived in Philadelphia Council Bluffs and Cheyenne County and cared for her brother’s orphaned children. Funeral at Catholic Church Sunday at 2 pm with burial in Catholic Cemetery.
