The railroad announce a voluntary 15 percent reduction in freight charges from Chicago to Missouri river points. The Chappell Register notes that if western lines drop coal rates about 50 percent from Rock Springs to Chappell, railroad agitation may have progressed enough.

Adaline Poole Haskell, 78, wife of Andrew J. Haskell, died at her Sidney home on March 21. Born December 10, 1832 in Rockport Massachusetts, she moved to Kansas in 1859 and to Sidney in 1876. Survived by her husband, two sisters in Massachusetts and a daughter in Council Bluffs Iowa. Funeral Friday at home with Rev Leamer of the Lutheran church.
The Independent Telephone company passes to new owners on the first of next month. Officers include J. T. Moynahan as President and Mrs. Mary Hatch as Vice President with J Moynahan as Secretary and Treasurer. Mr and Mrs Cal McConaughy of Dalton will run the Sidney exchange. The firm built over two hundred miles of wire from Sidney to many points and operates central and toll stations in multiple towns. The corporation, formed about a year ago with 35000 capital, was led by B A Lathrop and J M Sager family holdings, now sold to the new owners.
George H. Davis of Sidney and Mamie A. Bartholemew of Kimball Nebraska wed at the groom's parents home on March 17 with County Judge Tucker officiating. Davis works for Union Pacific. Bartholemew is Sheriff Bartholomew’s daughter. The couple will reside in Sidney.
On Wednesday afternoon at the Lutheran parsonage Rev J B Leamer united Miss Caroline Schuler and Mr William L Ravert in marriage. Miss Schuler is the daughter of Mr and Mrs William Schuler and Mr Ravert is the son of Mrs Emma Ravert. The couple plan a home on his Dalton ranch and have many friends in Sidney and their own community who wish them a long, happy life together.
A. S. Babkell thanks numerous friends for aid during illness and the burial of his wife. He wishes them kindness and faithful sympathy in their time of sorrow.
Lloyd Mann resigns from the roundhouse while Gene Cramer and Fred Dudley join as roundhouse staff. J W Richereau, Pacific express agent, spent Sunday in Sterling. Section Foreman Peterson of Chap pell and Trainmaster Clay baugh inspected shops. New freight crews added between Cheyenne and North Platte as Union Pacific rush grows. Various personnel moves occur including Nall, Morris Tinaman, William Kingelty, and J B Coates. A new order expands brakeman responsibility with copy of train orders. Electric block system extension from Buford to Hermosa underway, replacing some train orders. A lease option for 5,000 acres of dry land in southern Colorado targets rubber cultivation.
