Nebraska oil output hits record high in weekly report

Nebraska’s oil output reached an all time daily high of 60 947 barrels last week with demand and storage replenishment cited as drivers. Western exploration continues despite weather slowing some operations as Ohio Meier 1 and other wells progress in Kimball and Banner counties. several new wells show promising pay zones and field prospects across the state.

Good Friday services set across Cheyenne County churches

Good Friday observances return with limited union services after years of joint events. Lodgepole’s Emmanuel Lutheran Church will host a 2 p.m. union service with Lodgepole Chorus providing music and pastors offering cross themed talks. Frontier claims Nebraska cities pawns in subsidy push

Rattlesnakes Unearthed on Panhandle Ranch

On the John Hillman ranch twenty two miles southwest of Kimball a rattlesnake den was found nine feet deep after a bulldozer excavation. Hillman shot one snake nearby and saw others. digging disturbed many snakes, estimated to be around 198.

Worst Storm Of Year Sweeps Panhandle Area

A blizzard with 40 mph winds dumped six to seven inches of heavy wet snow across the Panhandle, closing schools in Dalton Potter and Lorenzo while traffic slowed to a crawl. Snow plows struggled through drifting. one crash near Sidney involved Ernest Chapman and Scott Hobson, causing $650 in damage and no serious injuries.

Parents Night Program Cancelled At Junior High

The Parents Night program scheduled at the Junior High auditorium tonight has been postponed due to the storm. Principal Mel Everingham said it will be rescheduled later. Early photos show Easter garments and overshoes at the Junior High, with school briefly held in Sidney but dismissed in Dalton, Potter and Lorenzo.

Cheyenne County collects 98.9 percent real estate taxes

County Treasurer M. M Inhelder reports 98.9 percent of 1958 real estate taxes and 97.13 percent of personal taxes have been collected in Cheyenne County. About 10 districts show no delinquent real estate taxes and a similar number have no delinquent personal taxes. Delinquent totals in Sidney amount to 14824 for personal taxes and 11492 for real estate.

Chamber president Ed Bauman says firms not yet receiving 1959 official holiday cards may pick them up at the Chamber office or call 2809 for delivery. Firms will close all day for Memorial Day and Independence Day weekends and partial days for Good Friday and Fort Sidney Days parade. stores close noon to 3 p.m. on Good Friday. Remaining fully closed holidays include Memorial Day Saturday May 30, Independence Day Saturday July 4, Labor Day September 7, Veterans Day November 11, Thanksgiving November 26, Christmas Day December 25, and New Year’s Day Friday January 1.

Welfare Office Seeks Boarding Homes For Youths

The Cheyenne County Welfare Office appeals for foster homes for youngsters from babies to 18 years. Homes are needed for various reasons including neglect, court orders, school issues, and parental incapacity. Heaton Named Temporary Acting County Judge

Cheyenne County Commissioners named Pat Heaton Sr. temporary acting county judge at a special meeting. Heaton will serve until a permanent acting judge is appointed at the April 7 meeting or until County Judge C. W. Smith returns. He succeeds J. L. Thorpe who requested relief to focus on his caseload. TheApril 7 decision will follow Cheyenne County Bar Assn. recommendations, set for April 1, and commissioners approved John Peetz Jr. as deputy county attorney per Balderson’s recommendation.

Sidney men fined in Cheyenne County Court cases

County Judge Pat Heaton Sr. heard two Wednesday cases in Cheyenne County Court. Donald F. McElfresh of Sidney was fined 25 dollars plus costs for careless driving. Leonard Shoopman of Sidney received a 50 dollar verdict plus costs for a no fund check after pleading guilty to issuing a 5 dollar no fund check to a Sidney firm on February 24.
