Nebraska to study potato spoilage in 1947

The University of Nebraska plant pathology department will investigate potato storage and transit losses in central and western Nebraska in 1947. Arden F. Sherf, John P. Hollis, and R. W. Goss lead the project, funded in part by a $1200 grant from the Potato Development Division. The study will survey tuber rot at harvest, in storage, and during transit, identify fungi and bacteria, test effects of temperature and moisture, and compare potato varieties for susceptibility, as pink rot and a related fungus newly found in Nebraska are further explored.
