Firemen To Train At Scottsbluff In April
A regional fire training school for western Nebraska firemen will be held in Scottsbluff on April 4. Fire Chief George Williams of Scottsbluff announced the event with Joe Fetter of Lincoln directing instruction. The Scottsbluff session serves all Nebraska fire departments west of Sidney and Alliance, part of a series of 10 regional schools statewide. A state fire school is scheduled for Grand Island on April 23 to 25.

Suspect Held For Burglary In Breternitz Bakery Case
Wayne C. Hamm, 30, was caught by City Patrolman Clarence Durnell last Thursday night in Breternitz Bakery and is charged with burglary in a complaint filed by County Attorney Lawrence M. Clinton. Hamm is in the county jail. Hamm reportedly caused a water leak by breaking a pipe while entering the building, with an attempted entry at the adjacent E L Hoover Store as well. Sheriff W W Schulz said Hamm admitted parole from Nevada and is suspected in two weeks earlier Mecontgomery Ward and J C Penney break-ins, though fingerprints will be used to verify links. Hamm moved to town late February to work as a butcher. he is married but separated.

Contracts for poles cross arms and 249 miles of conductor wire were awarded to J H Baxter and Aluminum Company of America for the 80 mile Gering Sidney transmission line in Nebraska part of the Missouri Basin project. Heavy equipment will resume drilling the Lovercheck test well eight miles west of Harrisburg. The Kimball contracted rig from Lamar Colorado handles 12,000 feet, with Powers Drilling Co of Casper, Wyo in charge. Muddy formation expected just after resumption around 5,480 feet, then Sundance sand at 6,300 feet. Based on earlier wells in the region, depths of 5,000 feet have been common in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming.

Sidney has reduced municipal utility system indebtedness by more than 300000 dollars in under three years. A 30000 dollar bond payment was made to the County Treasurer ahead of the May 1 due date.
