Sheriff’s Office Highlights Police Training and Roles
Deputy Kermit Brumaugh and Deputy Gene Morris trained with Nebraska Safety Patrol and Sidney police respectively. All three men share Scouting involvement and active Boy Scout roles. The office handles photography, mug shots, fingerprint files, and evidence detailing for trials. They serve papers, attend court, and collect delinquent taxes totaling over $58,000 last year without fees. They investigate accidents, support Civil Defense, transport prisoners to state facilities, and regularly visit Lincoln Beatrice Hastings Kearney and Geneva for incarcerations, returning prisoners from various cities. Deputies supply their own cars, operate on a mileage basis, and are not in uniform. For quick arrests, contact the sheriff’s office.

End Of Quotas On Wheat Not In Sight
Federal farm officials said no end to government marketing quotas on wheat is in sight as ground will be lost this year in cutting surpluses. The Agriculture Department will impose rigid quotas for the 1959 crop subject to a two thirds vote approval in a June 20 referendum. The 1959 national wheat acreage allotment is set at 55 million acres, the legal minimum, marking the sixth straight year of restrictions on the grain. Despite withdrawal of nearly 10 percent under the soil bank, the wheat supply remains larger than a year ago and enough to meet market needs for at least 25 months.
