Wreck near Dalton claims fireman Saunders on two-train collision

A southbound passenger train and a northbound freight collided twelve miles north of Sidney on last Saturday afternoon in a snowstorm. Fireman Harry Saunders of Fort Morgan died. Engineer Holliday of the passenger and Engineer Graham of the freight survived with injuries.

Manager Lathrop of the Independent Telephone Co has closed the deal for the transfer of the property in Colorado The bulk of the stock is said to be purchased by Mrs Mary Hatch and J T Monahan Also Cripple Creek mine owner They plan to invest about 10000 dollars to enlarge and improve the system The Lathrops expect to move to Cripple Creek in a few weeks leaving Sidney with many regrets

State High School Inspector Hodgman reports Sidney is so good that accreditation has been filed. Supt. C. C. Danforth from Tecumseh did pioneering work last year and Supt. U P Will Build Electric Plant for Block Signals

The Union Pacific plans to extend the block signal system over its Wyoming division with three electric power houses at Sidney Nebraska Point of Rocks Wyoming and Hanna Wyoming to generate power for block signals and an independent telephone system. The Wyoming division will be split into three dispatch districts and 2000 telephones dispatched from the east to connect every station along the overland route. The system aims to speed train dispatch and reduce telegraph congestion with long distance metallic circuits and telephones at each station and siding.

Bayard Feud Ends With Marshal Assault and Jail Break

Marshal Gaumer filed charges against John Kieth Pat King J R Kieth and Wm Linn over a confrontation sparked by the arrest of Kieth's father. Kieth freed a prisoner during the night and later helped arrest Gaumer. Sheriff McDaniel sent for, Linn dismissed as a bystander, Shorty Nelson fined five dollars. Preliminary hearings set for March 21 in Sidney.

Sheriff Kills Convict During Escape Near Kimball

Logan Blissard, a five year horse stealing convict, was shot and killed by Sheriff John Owens of Newcastle as Blissard fled toward Rawlins. The pursuit followed an escape from a train near Dix Kimball in a blizzard. A coroner's jury ruled self defense.
