Atlas Sorge Makes Good Forage but Seed Shortage Hits
Grain experts at the university of agriculture report atlas sorghum as the best forage among 25 tested varieties during last summer’s drought. Because atlas sorghum yields little seed in drought, officials now advise hegari sorghum as an early ripening, grain-type forage alternative produced in Texas. Both crops provide drought resistant feed for ensilage or fodder, with seed recommendations of 12 pounds per acre for drilled rows and 90 pounds per acre when broadcast, noting Western farmers should reduce sowing and seed availability remains tight.

Present Session Now Is Getting Expensive
The Nebraska two house legislature nears a costly end with talk of adding 55 000 to the 100 500 already allotted for expenses and a fear that tax fund appropriations may exceed two years ago by about a million dollars raising the prospect of spending 12 million in tax money instead of 11 million. Two years ago legislative expenses totaled 201 668 with a remaining unexpended balance of 28 644 after adjournment. If 55 000 more is approved this session will be costly.

Land base to expand under 1935 corn hog program
Newrasket farmers will take more land out of corn production under the 1935 corn hog program than in 1934 AAA administrators believe. The average is expected to rise to about 100 acres from 85, reflecting program changes and farmers signing a single lease for multiple lands, with early signups speeding up applications as counties begin checks and aim to finish contracts by planting time. Absentee landlords are urged to contact tenants to place land under contract.
