District Court actions span three days with limited trials

The district court convened with Judge Grimes for a three day term. Most criminal matters ended swiftly. Ira Jordan was found guilty of horse stealing and sentenced to eighteen months. Waugh pled guilty to criminal assault and received two years. Several civil cases were resolved or continued, including sales confirmed and deeds issued, while others were postponed or dismissed. Railroads paid back taxes totaling 41716.75 to the county. Two village trustee slates contested. Local notes: livery sale and wallpapering mention.

Alfalfa Seed Trials Improve Yields on Western Nebraska Lands

F. Stephens reports Brett brothers of Sextorp Cheyenne county Nebras ka have tested alfalfa seeding methods over nine years. They compare broadcast seeding with drilling in 18 to 22 inch rows and 36 to 40 inch drills to grow a pure seed crop. They cultivate four to five times, drill 10 pounds seed per acre, and store moisture until August 1. They expect western Nebraska table lands to yield $20 to $30 per acre from alfalfa seed.

Agnes Kelley of Bridgeport Dies After Operation

Miss Agnes Kelley died March 5 after surgery for a tumor at St. Joseph's hospital following a visit to her aunt in Onlaba. She lived seven years in the western country and was loved for her strong character and sunny personality. She is survived by her sister Mrs. George Richardson of Orlando and her father Mr. Henry Kelley.

School addition favored to ease crowded rooms

Community notes urge building an addition to the school house including an auditorium laboratory gymnasium and manual training space to support twelve grades next year. The plan would require a new teacher and future expansion to avoid crowding. a basketball game with Kimball on April 6 is noted.

Railroad Notes Reflect Local Rail Activity

Earl Cady greeted friends last Monday while Frank Stoner of Union Pacific Hotels visited town on Tuesday. About fifty Italians were sent to Bronson to work on the track. Edgar P. Carr of Burlington was in town, and A F Vickrey with his wife spent Monday in Sidney reviewing railroad affairs. A Union Pacific dining car caught fire at Hilledale last Monday morning causing heavy damage to car and contents.
