Big Springs earns superior ratings in both band and chorus at the Lodge Pole Valley Activities Association Music Festival in Sidney. Dalton High leads juniors with seven, while Big Springs and Sunflower follow with five each. Potters, Lodgepole, St. Patrick's, Melbeta, Lorenzo, Harrisburg, and Dix post various excellent and good ratings across band and choir. Nearly 300 students from 11 Panhandle schools competed. about 110 entries were recorded.

Dick Connors Wanted for Grand Larceny

Police Apprehend AWOL Soldier in Sidney
Harold Lee Smith, 23, sought by Army authorities since January, was captured by Military Police in Sidney this morning. Sidney police handed him over after officers were alerted he had been AWOL from Fort Carson since January 15. Smith, who married a Sidney woman in February, was taken from her parents home with no resistance after about six weeks in the area.

SAC Band Accepts Invite to Fort Sidney Days Parade
The SAC band at Offutt Air Force Base has accepted Sidney Jaycees invitation to join Fort Sidney Days on June 20. Fort Sidney Days director P J Heaton Jr said the 40-piece band may perform a brief concert if military air space allows.
