Cheyenne County Tops Nebraska Natural Gas Production

Nebraska has produced close to 79.85 million cubic feet of commercial natural gas by end of 1958, with Cheyenne County contributing 47.37 million. Huntsman Field and West Sidney Field led in county output, while Dorman, Doran, and Marlow fields added notable figures. gas processing plants strip liquids before distribution. Oil production totals show 100 million barrels statewide, with Cheyenne County supplying about 30 million barrels, though Kimball and Banner counties now outpace it. 40 rigs active in western Nebraska, only one in Cheyenne County.

Big Springs Dominates Music Festival In Sidney Contests

Big Springs earns superior ratings in both band and chorus at the Lodge Pole Valley Activities Association Music Festival in Sidney. Dalton High leads juniors with seven, while Big Springs and Sunflower follow with five each. Potters, Lodgepole, St. Patrick's, Melbeta, Lorenzo, Harrisburg, and Dix post various excellent and good ratings across band and choir. Nearly 300 students from 11 Panhandle schools competed. about 110 entries were recorded.

Sterling Man Severely Hurt In Near Potter Accident

Roland Bird of Sterling an employee of The Neff Trucking Co was seriously injured while working as a swamper on a truck near Potter The gin pole cable broke causing poles to swing forward and strike him on the rack He sustained a skull fracture and broken nose and is hospitalized at Kimball Hospital.

Sidney Girl Is Wesleyan Beauty Finalist

Elaine Witrig of Sidney, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ted Witte, is among six finalists in the Nebraska Wesleyan University 1959 Beauty Queens contest. A 1959 graduate of Sidney High School, she was runnerup in the Miss Lincoln Pageant in 1956. She is active in student life and sports and will attend the coronation ball on April 4.

Dick Connors Wanted for Grand Larceny

A warrant for the arrest of Richard Connors has been issued by the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office in Hue for grand larceny. Connors, once known as Slim The Fixit Man, disappeared around February 17 with three watches a clock a ring binoculars and a stamp collection.

Police Apprehend AWOL Soldier in Sidney

Harold Lee Smith, 23, sought by Army authorities since January, was captured by Military Police in Sidney this morning. Sidney police handed him over after officers were alerted he had been AWOL from Fort Carson since January 15. Smith, who married a Sidney woman in February, was taken from her parents home with no resistance after about six weeks in the area.

SAC Band Accepts Invite to Fort Sidney Days Parade

The SAC band at Offutt Air Force Base has accepted Sidney Jaycees invitation to join Fort Sidney Days on June 20. Fort Sidney Days director P J Heaton Jr said the 40-piece band may perform a brief concert if military air space allows. Hill City Fife and Drum Corps and a US Air Force Academy band were also invited.
