A petition circulated in Cheyenne County Court House urges state Senator A. A. Fenske to back three welfare bills LB 167 would raise old age assistance to 70 dollars monthly LB 171 would seek federal matching funds for medical care and LB 172 would add a mental provision to aid for the disabled. County officials signed the petition yesterday.

Five Cheyenne County districts may lose school apportionment

Nebraska Attorney General C S Beck ruled that districts not operating schools are ineligible for state funds. In Cheyenne County five districts contract education with others and face reduced or withheld apportionment totaling about two million dollars pending further guidance.

Sidney Water Wells Show Stable Levels and Strong Pressure

Flora Sanis of the water and sanitation department reports stable water levels in Sidney’s six municipal wells with pressure as good as two years ago. In January and February the city pumped 47.37 million gallons, down slightly from 50.66 million a year earlier, despite peak historical use in 1955 and 1956. Capacity totals 9.432 million gallons daily across six wells. Individual well capacities are 1050, 1050, 1250, 900, 1100 and 1200 gallons per minute.

Shell Oil Co via its Denver office plans a deep test two miles northwest of Kimball in the center of section 26 15 56. The Schneider B No. 1 will target the pre Cambrian granite at an estimated depth of 8 900 feet, with Kindall Drilling Co to perform the work. Nebraska crude oil output rose to 52 155 barrels per day last week, surpassing the prior weekly record of 51 239 barrels per day set the week before. The gain of nearly 1 000 barrels per day extends the state’s record production level.

Rites Held For Two Sidney Women Killed In Crash

Funeral services are set for Eleanor Kalthoff and Violet Farmer who died in a two car crash near Brady while returning from the state women's bowling tournament. Kalthoff's service is Thursday at St Patrick's Church with burial in Greenwood. Farmer's service is Friday at Light Memorial Presbyterian Church. The Gehrig and Son Funeral Home handles arrangements with memorials to St Patrick's Church. Survivors include multiple children, grandchildren, and relatives from Sidney.
