A Sidney progress record from 1950 to 1956 details 2,945,527,000 gallons of water pumped from three then six wells, 75,768 feet of new water mains, 8,450 feet of replacement pipe, a 600,000 gallon reservoir, and $320,000 in water revenue bonds. The period added 79,519,724 kilowatt hours of electricity, 74,918 feet of sewer mains, new plant improvements, 1,955 building permits totaling $17,193,405, and substantial paving, school, and housing investments.

Rural cancer drive to start early in five Nebraska counties
The Nebraska Cancer Society plans a rural solicitation to begin soon, delaying the usual April drive due to farm work. Five counties Banner Kimball Cheyenne Garden and Deuel formed a district meeting at Sidney City Auditorium with 40 attendees. Mrs Hasebroock spoke on the society at work and Dr Robert Benner outlined cancer types and treatments.

The Panhandle Players board selects a new in the round production approach with Connie Madsen named director and Bud Madsen as technical director. Officers elected include Herman Heise as president Dr Hull Cook as vice president Mrs Fritz Nagel as secretary treasurer and Leonard Fine as manager. A final organizational meeting is set for this evening at 8 in the junior high cafeteria inviting charter members. Miss Carole Swift Mrs Genevieve Fitch and Mrs Joseph Hahler join the play reading committee. Glenn Hughes of the University of Washington helped popularize arena theatre also known as theatre in the round.

Larry Gene Rohde of Gurley a fourth generation Boys State attendee was chosen to represent Gurley at Boys State in Lincoln. An Eagle Scout active since 1950 he earned 21 merit badges and held offices from patrol leader to senior scout leader plus secretary of the Arrow society and sports editor for the school annual.
