Polio Suspect Ayala Hospitalized in Scottsbluff
Eledio Ayala 25 of Sidney was taken to Methodist Hospital in Scottsbluff with sudden paralysis of the right leg and suspected polio. If confirmed, he would be Cheyenne County’s third polio case this year after Terry Dindinger and Judy Tudder. Ayala’s brother Dick, a Navy sailor, also had polio earlier and remains hospitalized, while the Ayala family has endured multiple recent hospitalizations and a skull fracture in a family accident.

Sidney High instrumental and vocal contest dates set
Pre contest eliminations for Sidney High School musicians take place March 24 for instrumental soloists and ensembles and March 31 for vocal division, all at 7 30 p m in the high school auditorium. Winners advance to the District VI Music Contest on April 15 and 16. The instrumental elimination includes cornet trio brass sextet flute trio French Horn group and various solos while the band previews contest selections. The public is invited to hear the young talent and judge the contestants.

Check Writer Is Sentenced
District Judge John Kuns sentenced Harvey Livingston to 18 months in the Nebraska State Penitentiary on two counts after guilty pleas to no account checks. Livingston admitted passing $20 and $5 checks at the Joe A. Gibson garage drawn on First National Bank of the Black Hills. He was to be taken to Lincoln Wednesday. Thomas Marshall, 38, pleaded guilty to uttering a forged instrument and received probation. He was charged with passing a $25 check at the J and S Liquor Store forged with Emory B. Piercy's signature. Jack L. Wheeland and Marvin J. Ballard were arraigned on multiple car break-in charges. Wheeland not guilty, Ballard no plea. hearings pending and possible jury trial in late April. Both will be represented by Atty. J L Thorpe.
