Weather permitting the Cheyenne County Soil Conservation Service district plans a full spring work program. Interest in soil conservation practices is rising after January blizzards and dust storms, with more requests for terracing contouring irrigation structures stubble mulch tillage and strip cropping. A key trend is irrigation structure construction with 1848 structures built last year about four times 1947, and this year expected to surpass 1949 totals. The district provides free technical assistance and cooperators may apply at the SCS office. The Sidney Junior Chamber of Commerce members learned their applications to join the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Nebraska Jaycees were accepted. A charter will be presented at the April 18 meeting by Chris Rosenburg of North Platte. John Abramson was named Sidney’s representative on the state Jaycee board with alternates Gene Cole and Keith Kay lor. The group discussed Fort Sidney Days being revived this year under Jaycees direction.
