Sidney Kiwanis Stars of Tomorrow Show Set for Sunday

Area talent is slated for the Stars of Tomorrow show at 2 p m Sunday in the Sidney Junior High School Auditorium. The grand prize winner will represent the community in the division contest with the Division Six event planned for 7 30 p m Monday March 30 in the Central School Auditorium. Local awards will recognize first and second runners up in each of three age divisions. Performers listed include Deborah Brady Ann Bonkiewicz Judy Spencer Peggy Sullivan Wendy Lamm and many others in dances songs and skits.

Police Chief Roy Bauer Attends State Police Conference

Police Chief Roy Bauer, president of the Nebraska Police Officers Association, will attend the state board meeting in Lincoln next Tuesday. Sidney has bid to host the group’s next state convention in October, with a decision possible at next week’s board session.

Son Of Former Resident Dies In South Vietnam

Richard J. Connelly 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Connelly of Long Beach California, was killed February 27 when his Army helicopter was shot down in South Vietnam. Burial was March 10 after a Requiem Mass at St. Cornelius Church Long Beach. Surviving are his parents a sister Susan and three brothers Gary Timothy and Dennis. Uncles and aunts in Sidney include Lee Stormberg Dolores Williams and Lewis Sterling. Mrs Williams traveled to the funeral with Dr Gene Stormberg of Omaha.

City works reseal creek bed lagoon with drilling mud

City Manager John Baudek said crews retreated the Legion Park lagoon with drilling mud to reseal Lodgepole Creek bed after a winter debris cleanup broke the seal. A second mud application may allow filling the lagoon and trout delivery is planned in about a month. Baudek added street sign replacements near 60 intersections from 13th Avenue to the east city limits and Hickory to Osage are nearly finished.

Gun Found Note on Slaney Police Log

Ray Nicholson of the city waste department reported finding a 410 shotgun with a broken stock in an alley in Slaney city. The discovery was noted in the Slaney police log.

Democratic Dinner Set For April 10 In Scotts Bluff

A Panhandle Area Democratic dinner is scheduled for April 10 at the Stable Club in Scotts Bluff. State Senator Kenneth Monfort of Weld County Colo will be the principal speaker with Nebraska candidates and current officeholders expected. By noon today the final filing date for county town and school posts saw ten candidates vying for three Sidney City Council seats. Last filings include Ed Bauman incumbent Ivan Liljegren Ned Robinson Pfizer Jim Lodes and Henry P Meyer with others Marvin Mangers Lloyd Wetenkamp Frank Smith Ken Pittam and Gottschalk also on the list.
