Central School Board Approves Education Pilot Plan

The Sidney board of education approves a continuous education pilot at Central Elementary for 1970-71 with expansion planned for North and South elementary schools. It also endorses retirement of four teachers and various staffing changes, calendar approvals, and program financings.

PCA Official To Be Speaker Here On Friday

Rudy Peralez of Scottsbluff Panhandle Community Action Agency will speak Friday at 7 30 p m in East Ward School auditorium. The meeting informs residents about the agency including Head Start and the Senior Citizens Center with organizers Sally Dittmar and Val Kealy inviting all to attend. Also note a stray line about jack rabbits running 40 mph and leaping 15 to 20 feet.

Federal Aid Sought for Sidney Day Care Center

Billie Smith, Cheyenne County Community Action board chair, said federal aid is being sought for a Sidney Day Care Center. Panhandle Community Action Agency approved a formal bid for funding, with expectant word within a month. City of Sidney donated two Sioux Villa units for the site and renovations are underway. Mrs. G. F. Bush chairs the administering board. volunteers are urged to help for an estimated 20 children of working mothers.

Stars of Tomorrow to feature 19 acts in Sidney

Nineteen acts are slated for the Sidney Kiwanis Club Stars of Tomorrow show at 2 p m Sunday March 15 in the Sidney Junior High School Auditorium. Glen Houtz Kiwanis president will be master of ceremonies. Awards include Grand Prize first and second runners up plus top two in three divisions elementary junior high and senior high.

Slippery Winter Mix Hits Area With Ice Snow

A chilly week delivered .06 inch of precipitation in ice crystals and snow. The FAA flight service station logged a trace Monday with a low of 11 and high of 38, then 8 and 31 on Tuesday as icy mist fell late in the day. Snow followed, making travel hazardous until mid morning. Sun appeared around 9, began melting, then overcast returned with fog. This was the first moisture in weeks and was welcomed.

Nebraska Panhandle Weather Outlook Summary

The Nebraska Panhandle expects generally fair, cold conditions through Thursday with highs 25 to 35 and lows near zero to 10. Thursday highs reach 30 to 40, with near zero chances of measurable precipitation. Extended outlook shows cold, possible snow Friday, then rising temperatures Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 40s to 50s and lows 5 to 10.

The Sidney Telegraph editor Jack H Lowe received the first annual Silver Spur award from the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce at the third annual banquet in Sidney with about 500 attendees. E K Yanney of Lodgepole presented the honor as Lowe thanked the crowd and vowed to stay in Nebraska. The event honored chamber leaders, announced awards for community service, and featured Ross E Boyer as guest speaker with musical entertainment from the Sidney High Madrigal Singers.
