Donors from Cheyenne County area will rise to the two day Blood For Freedom train visit at the Union Pacific Depot. About 240 have signed up to give blood with the American Legion Auxiliary registering donors and Cheyenne County Medical Society assisting. Donors are urged to avoid fatty foods four hours before and arrive on time to keep the schedule.

Oil activity expands in Cheyenne County as Ohio Oil Co. prepares a stem test Monday at the Young No. 1 in the Reimers field near Gurley, with the third sand producing oil in six wells at 4,840 feet. Cook No. 2 wildcat near Sidney targets coring midweek, while a Wytex operated Herboldsheimer No. 1 wildcat northeast of Potter eyes a Monday night spud.

The Shell Oil Co. has not set a definite site for its third drilling test in the south Potter field, but Larson No. 2 is staked and may be the next activity site in Cheyenne County. Texas Company has no report on Sioux Ordnance Depot where the fourth well is being drilled. In Kimball County the Goodwin No. 1 south and west of Dix is drilling at 5,811 feet, a venture by Vaughey and Vaughey on Frank Goodwin’s farm in Sidney. Hagemeister No. 1 is at 5,300 feet and may advance 100 feet before starting to core, offset to the Dunn No. 1 in the southeast quarter of Section 9-13-54 and the southwest quarter of Section 3-13-53.

Rummage Event To Fund Band Uniforms In Sidney
The Sidney Band Auxiliary plans a rummage sale in the City Auditorium basement on Saturday March 15 to raise money for new band uniforms. Helpers can bring rummage Friday or call Mrs. Edgar Sayre Mrs. Hilbert Borcher or Mrs. Arnold Westerhoff. They've raised about two thousand dollars so far and aim to reach five thousand to fund sixty uniforms.

Farm Home Fire Damages Dalton Residence
A Dalton farm home two miles south of Dalton sustained heavy damage from a fire set likely by a cigarette. Estimated at 3000 dollars, the blaze caused plaster to fall and paint to peel while furniture survived. Gilbert Myers suffered burns to his hands but did not need hospital care. Dalton Fire Department responded at 8:30 and contained the fire quickly.

Lawrence Hollon, 39, who escaped Cheyenne County jail last Dec 30 with Don Brown, was arrested in Memphis after calling Sheriff Schulz to say he would return. Police nabbed Hollon in a phone booth while he talked to a radio operator. He had been sentenced to five years in the Nebraska State Penitentiary for jailbreak. Brown, 20, surrendered later. both had damaged the jail during the escape.
