Oil trucks collide on highway near Gurley spill 2300 gallons
A four truck crash two miles south of Gurley on Highway 19 spilled about 2300 gallons of crude oil. Wayne Gurnsey of Holyoke Colo stopped to assist after a breakdown. a fourth truck driven by Richard Holliday of Sidney braked and hit the crude tanker, bursting its tank. Alliance Man Loses Eye In Car Accident
Walter Metz, 63, an Alliance attorney, was seriously injured in a highway crash near Dalton during a snowstorm. A 1951 Oldsmobile hit steel extending from a truck, smashing the windshield and injuring Metz who lost an eye and hip. He was taken to Dalton Hospital, resting comfortably. Damage to the car was about $2,000. Highway Patrol tied up the road as snow blocked visibility and many cars stalled between Dalton and Bridgeport.

Hollon Sentenced to Two Years for Jailbreak in Nebraska
Lawrence Dale Hollon, 39, who drew national attention March 5 after a jail escape, was sentenced Thursday to two years in the Nebraska State Penitentiary. The penalties run consecutively to a five-year term for assault with intent. Hollon and companion Don Brown escaped Cheyenne County Jail December 30 by battering a wall. After four months on the run Hollon surrendered in Memphis following a casual call to Sheriff Schulz. Sheriff Schulz retrieved Hollon in Memphis and transported him to Sidney. Hollon pled guilty in Cheyenne County court and district court before Judge John Kuns.
