Fertilizer tests show limited gains in 1946 Nebraska study
University of Nebraska agronomy tests on corn and potato yields from 1946 show nitrogen starter plus ammonium nitrate boosted corn yields only under certain timings, with 40 pounds per acre often best. In potatoes, fertilizer yielded little in two of three western Nebraska tests, with mixed results in the third. Experiments on irrigation water for sugar beets found no significant yield gains.
