Reappraisal Field Survey Started Here

Second phase of Cheyenne County's scientific reappraisal program is underway. Orville Brandt of Jus ten Haynes Co. of Denver has begun obtaining physical descriptions and facts about houses in County Club Heights. Brandt has data on nearly 100 homes and will survey all dwellings in Sidney before work moves to the county's villages. He does not assign valuations yet. later figures will be reviewed by county officials. The material gathered is detailed and includes ownership, construction, rooms, utilities, neighborhood, zoning, plumbing, heating, and finishes. A photo and exterior plan accompany each dwelling.

Ex-Servicemen In Snappy Greetings

Sidney police were called to a suspected street fight but found two men with no fight. They claimed to be old service pals reuniting in a wartime style greeting. Police Capt. Roy Bauer commented on the odd scene.

Safety Patrol Office Repainted In Sidney Nebraska

The Nebraska Safety Patrol office in Sidney's City Auditorium was repainted in blue tones named Nebraska Safety Patrol Blue. Dispatcher Bob Barry and Dispatcher Earl Elliott led the project using three gallons of state purchased paint.

Paving Planned for Highway 29 South of Kimball

The state highway department announced 11.9 miles of Highway 29 will receive asphalt paving as part of a March 29 bid. The project aims to create a direct paved route from Kimball to Denver and Colorado points, with plans to extend north to Nebraska line in the future.

Parole Hearing Set for 11 Inmates Including Killer Bowman

William Bowman 41, life for murder since 1937, is among 11 penitentiary inmates slated for parole hearing April 18 by the board of pardons. Bowman and co defendant Or ville Childers beat and killed 89 year old William Moore in his Sidney home. Childers is imprisoned with a reduced sentence of 40 years after commutation. The docket also lists for reformatory and penitentiary review several other inmates with charges of forgery, checks and break in.

Miss America Sharon Ritchie to attend Miss Nebraska pageant in Sidney

Sharon Kay Ritchie a 19 year old Miss America titleholder from Grand Island will appear at the Miss Nebraska Pageant in Sidney June 12 13 as part of Fort Sidney Days events. Governor Anderson and Miss Nebraska Queen Sandra Speicher will also attend with at least 15 contestants.

County Receives 49876.81 in State School Aid

Cheyenne County treasurer Herb Stevens reports a 49876.81 dollar state apportionment check for distribution to county school districts. The total state apportionment this year is 3,040,757, with growth from higher land rentals and other revenues. the funds will be allocated by per district shares and school census figures.

Dean Wilson Tops Sidney City Council Field

Dean Wilson, employed at Thomas Lumber Co., leads alphabetically as a Sidney City Council candidate. Married with three sons, he belongs to the Sidney Chamber of Commerce, Junior Chamber, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rotary, and the Country Club where he served as secretary treasurer. He served in the Naval Air Corps during World War II.

Rites Held for Clarence A. Glassburn in Sidney

Funeral services for Clarence A. Glassburn 86 will be at First Methodist Church Sidney. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery beside his wife who died in 1934. Pallbearers are his six sons. Memorials to Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital. He was born February 23 1870 in Ohio and died at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital after fifteen days as patient. Surviving children include Carr Ruhter Floyd Milan Wilber Addie Hull De Witt Thomas Max and Ed Nelson a daughter. Also surviving three sisters thirty grandchildren forty eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. One daughter died in 1947.

Senate defeats bid to restore 90 percent supports

Nebraska’s two senators voted with the majority as the Senate rejected an effort to restore 90 per cent supports on cotton corn and peanuts. The 54 to 41 vote marked a major Administration victory and signals possible defeat of high supports for wheat rice and dairy. Eisenhower and the Agriculture Department push to keep flexible parity based supports from 1954.

Civil Defense Meeting Set for Sidney March 21

Lovina Mahlman is valedictorian with a seven semester average of 97.5 percent and only one B plus.
