Bombs blamed for Gurley Oshkosh explosions

Vandalic acts with homemade bombs occurred in Gurley and near Oshkosh early Thursday. A telephone booth outside Tallmans Cafe was blown off its wall in Gurley about 1:30 am. A bomb damaged a drilling firm pickup cab west of Oshkosh. Sheriff's offices and the FBI lab will investigate. Rewards offered for information.

Miss Jorgenson Joins Sidney Public School Staff

Miss Helen Ann Jorgenson will join the Sidney public school faculty for the term and replace Mrs. Beverly Mohart Magers in the Educable Mentally Retarded program. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Jorgenson and will receive her Master of Arts degree at Colorado State College in Greeley this quarter.

Gering City Council in a special session approved a May 14 ballot question on using eminent domain to acquire the Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Co. system. The move centers on whether the city should assume control of gas mains pipes meters and related facilities serving Gering and nearby areas.

Wheat Clinic Set for March 11 at Chappell Fire Hall

A special wheat clinic is scheduled for March 11 at the Chappell Fire Hall. The program runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with coffee at 9:30 a.m. Speakers include Dr. Robert Hatch on wheat as livestock feed, Dr. Eric Kerr on diseases, and Louis Daigger on soils and fertilizer.

Opening Day of Food Stamp Sale in Cheyenne County

On the first day of the program in Cheyenne County, about 150 people will have received stamps after 124 purchases totaling nearly 10000 dollars in certificates sold for 2657.25 dollars. The event drew long lines and the welfare director urged eligible residents to apply, with future sale days set for March 18 and then the second and fourth Wednesdays starting in April as Mr. Knackstedt tours towns in the county.

Three filings for office were reported this week by Sidney City Clerk Gordon Tobin. Lloyd Wetenkamp of Sidney Community TV and Marvin J. Three Mishaps Reported In Sidney Over Two Days

Sidney Police investigated three accidents in 48 hours. Edith Schmitt’s northbound car struck a parked vehicle near the Cheyenne County Courthouse causing about 50 dollars in damage. A second crash involved a Santos vehicle hit by a falling canopy beam at Frontier Station with no damage estimate. James Ross was charged with leaving the scene after backing into James Taylor’s parked car near The Mill with no damage estimates available.

District 76 Receives Federal Grant for Rural School Demonstration

I A Caldwell Cheyenne County Superintendent announced a federal grant to District 76 to support a continuous progress program. ESU 19 will provide consultant services and assist teachers patrons and the board. Mini grants of 1200 dollars fund teaching materials for the project. Caldwell noted the rural school is among a few to receive such funding this year.

James M. Hazelwood 59 Dies After Heart Attacks in Rapid City

James M. Hazelwood longtime Sidney resident and former Sioux Army Depot employee died in a Rapid City hospital after consecutive heart attacks. He had worked at Ellsworth Air Force Base for four years following his departure from Sioux. Funeral arrangements are pending at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home.

The Nebraska State Patrol in Kimball Cheyenne and Deuel counties shows 14 troopers logged 11 accidents 540 warnings 438 equipment defect tickets 275 court summons seven drunken drivers one stolen car recovered and five felony arrests in February with no fatalities in the three counties.

Hutchison Services To Be Saturday

Sidney resident Carl H. Hutchison 77 a plumbing and heating contractor died after a long illness. Funeral services set for 10 a m Saturday at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with Rev. He was born July 30 1892 in Otis Colorado and moved to Sidney in 1916. Two Vehicle Crash in Potter and a Cow Killed Near Dalton

Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Max Ibach investigated two incidents this week. A 1966 station wagon driven by Mary Abbie Anderson collided with a 1961 Buick driven by Donald J. Moench in Potter with no injuries and about $100 damage each. Later a 1962 International truck northbound on Highway 385 struck a cow owned by Rodney E. McConnell seven and a half miles north of Dalton, killing the animal valued at $250. truck suffered no damage.
