Western Nebraska observers say precise crop and topsoil losses from February winds will take at least a month to quantify. John Meyers Potter Resident Dies at 76
Pioneer resident John Gottlieb Meyers died after a brief illness in a Sidney hospital. At 76, he came to the area in the 1880s with his parents and lived on a farm south of Point of Rocks before moving to Potter. Funeral services were held at The Craig Home for Funerals with interment at Potter. He left a sister Mrs. John Seyfang and several relatives including two children, two brothers, two nieces, and a nephew in Potter and Sidney.

Mother and Baby Escape Death In Farm Blaze
A two family farm home near Potter was destroyed by fire on Saturday. A 20 year old mother Mrs Eugene Wheeler and her 8 month old baby escaped after she carried the child through flames. The car broke en route to report the fire and aid arrived too late. There was no insurance. Gasoline used for cleaning clothes blamed for the blaze. Prairie fires also reported south of Dix with uncertain extent. Sidney volunteers fought a small blaze at the city dump endangering Star Packing Co. property amid a brisk north wind.

Paul Sell to Lead Alliance High School Music Program
Paul M. Sell of Lincoln was chosen by the Alliance school board to succeed Val Hill as instructor of music and director of the Alliance High School band. He arrives June 1. Sell has nine years of teaching music, a BFA from Nebraska in 1935, and an MA from Columbia in 1942. He served in the U. S. Navy and played horn in the Navy band. He directed music at Sidney for 18 months before his Navy service and has extensive symphony experience in Lincoln and Hastings.

Lyman captured the district Class C tournament at Mitchell Friday night by defeating Oshkosh 34 to 26. Oshkosh had ousted St. Patrick's of Sidney in the semifinals, while Lyman had eliminated Minatare. In the third place game, Minatare beat St. Patrick's 38-31. Peetz and Kallhoff led the Irish scoring. many champions trained under Ray Maley of Sidney, who left Lyman for a Sidney school post this term.
