Scott, Champion Soil Conservationist, Dies
Ambrose E. Scott, 82, of Gering, famed as Nebraska’s dean of soil and moisture conservation, died Tuesday morning at a Scottsbluff hospital. A pioneer western Nebraska resident, he was named a Scotts Bluff county winner in a statewide soil conservation contest last November. Born Sept 11, 1863, in New Concord Ohio, he moved west at 23, homesteaded near Pumpkin Creek after 1887, built Banner county’s first reservoir, and served two terms as county treasurer.

Farmers with 1945 wheat stored under Government loans must redeem the grain by today Friday March 1. The Agriculture Department announced January 31 that loans on such wheat would be called March 1. Loans called to increase market supplies as the Government struggles to meet export commitments. Unredeemed wheat goes to the Government with borrowers receiving 15 cents a bushel above loan value after charges.

A fierce prairie blaze swept west of Potter fueled by 60 mph winds destroying two barns and outbuildings on the Lou Schmidt and Godfrey Pearson farms. Cattle losses feared, grain and hay losses reported. Firefighters from Potter and nearby towns fought for hours to halt the flames. A separate late Monday fire in a stubble field near the Ernest Reker farm prompted rural district response. officials warned losses could have been heavier if straw stacks burned. A Tuesday morning oil furnace fire at 1510 17th Avenue caused smoke damage only.

Trucker Accidents In Colorado Collision Injures No One
A collision on highway No 6 two miles southwest of Atwood Colorado involved George Jobman 36 of Sidney and Harry Yamada 38 of Atwood. Both trucks were southwest bound when Yamada began a left turn and Jobman attempted to pass. Damages were about 150 to Yamada’s truck and 20 to Jobman’s vehicle with no personal injuries reported.

Robert C Keefer 46 a Union Pacific railroad foreman was found dead with a bullet wound in his basement at 1734 Osage Street Sidney. Mrs Keefer discovered the body and authorities say he had been dead several hours. No inquest ordered. Funeral services Friday two PM at Gehrig Funeral Home with Rev Walter Jewett. burial in Sidney Greenwood Cemetery. He came to Sidney in 1933 from Independence Kansas and is survived by wife son Thomas in Navy two sisters and three brothers. He was in failing health for some time.

International Day Observed by Business and Professional Women
The Business and Professional Women's club held a Monday evening program aligned with International Day during the last week of February.
