Change at State Office Triggers Mixed Reactions
Dr. Anderson, first named in 1915 by Governor Morehead and serving under his successor Neville, recalls his career with pride and fatigue. Appointed again in 1935 by Governor Cochran, he notes he was told of a change by Buchholz but not the reason. He quips he is glad to be out, calling the job thankless as speculators in the state house whisper about a South Omaha replacement and salary cuts that reduced annual pay by four hundred dollars after 1939.

Wheat Crop Records Align With Soil Moisture Levels
A 30 year study by John S. Cole and O R Mathews of the U S Department of Agriculture shows spring wheat yields rise as soil moisture depth at seeding time falls. At one foot or less moisture the average yield was 6.5 bushels. at two feet 11.9. at three feet or more 18.2. Fallowed plots yielded higher on average, but continuous cropping often produced more failures, suggesting fallowing can be advantageous where stored moisture is shallow.
