City Manager Field Reduced After Screening in Sidney
The Sidney city council narrowed a forty person field for city manager to four or five candidates after a three hour special meeting Monday night. Acting City Manager Gordon Tobin said one candidate may visit soon for an interview. The council plans lengthy deliberation before naming a replacement for Murrey Fuller, who resigned Feb. 26 for a post in Richland Washington. Salary likely 7000 to 7500 with emphasis on administrative and accounting experience and handling about 70 staff.

Stray Dog Bites Child at Ord Depot. Owner Sought
An 11 year old boy, Mickey Berry, was bitten by a male white cocker spaniel stray with a chest spot near Ordville Depot. Residents differ on how long the dog has roamed. Ammo Storage Division Wins Sioux Depot's 58 Safety Award
The Ammunition Storage Division at Sioux Ordnance Depot won the depot 1958 Safety Award over three other divisions. Col. George C. Abert presented it to S. C. Fisher for the division's 227 employees. Fisher praised the crew for a solid safety record, noting a low 28 demerits per operation and only one disabling injury with two and a half lost workdays. The competing divisions posted 32, 3.8, and 4.9 demerits respectively, while the division logged 391,384 manhours during the year.

Courthouse Annex Possibility Measured Against Church
Denver architect Walter H. Simon presented preliminary sketches for using the First Methodist Church as a Cheyenne County Courthouse annex. Remodeling could cost 25 000 to 30 000 dollars, excluding jail equipment and courthouse furniture. Church officials propose selling for 65 000 dollars. total 90 000 to 95 000 dollars may be cheaper than a new addition. The annex would be 12 000 square feet and the sanctuary could allow a third story if needed. County Commissioners will study the plan and decide later.

Six Bands Bid for Centennial Pageant Honor
Sidney High School Marching Band has accepted an invitation to join six bands in the Portland Rose Festival June 9 to 14 in Portland Oregon. The Sidney group will join Abilene Texas Joliet Illinois Worthington Minnesota and Ponca City Oklahoma in a parade and concert program. About 105 students and several sponsors will travel, with costs around 13 000 dollars, funded by fund raising and existing band funds. Transportation plans are under study, with options of bus or plane and two nights along the route.
